Does anyone know any "will-do-the-job" cheapy monitors. I just want half a chance of mixing a few demos in a bedroom.

I'm thinking about 200Euro. (I know I know, not worth the money)

X-Music had a great deal on M-Audio BX8a monitors for 290 Euros. Pretty good for what you are doing I would think.

    I'm using Alesis 520's (M1 Active).
Cost 195,take a little time to set them up properly and you won't be disappointed.

You're best off getting a cheap-ass pair of M-Audios tbh. Anything between 100-300 is pretty much the same, the law of diminishing returns in terms of monitors is a bit quirky like that. I'd recommend trawling boards for a second hand pair - I got one of the cheaper M-Audio active pairs for 60 (RRP about 150) and with proper cables they were as good as anything I've heard sub-300 euro. In any case ANY studio monitors will be a massive improvement any sort of a hi-fi/computer speaker set up and will be more than capable for producing out of a 'recreational' or hobby studio.

This is going to become the new atari jaguar over my dead body... :D

I recently found a pair of B-stock KRK rokit 6s on ebay for just €260 including delivery from UK. I think the ebay shop was called whybuynew or something like that. They work perfectly, only thing wrong with them is 1 or 2 scratchs on them (no where near the tweeters or woofers or anything). Might be worth looking them up.

have to disagree there buddy. possibly the most hyped low end ever on a monitor. you need to stuff the ports just to get anywhere near a normal bass response and yet they still churn out bass lite mixes. they defy belief IMO.

that would be your best bet.. look around for factory 2nds mid-price.. they're out there to be found. thomann.de sometimes have 2nds and discontinued lines on special.

I got the ESI near 05 experience 5 inchers, they're about the 200 mark, they were reviewed in SOS as best value for money, they seem alright to me.....

    Thanks CQD,

Don't think I'll ever buy another Alesis product ever again.
Had a set of M1 MkII Actives. One of them broke - twice!!!

And i have a set of 620's back with Alesis at the moment.

Bought a pair of MAudios there a while back and no probs so far.

I've made this point before - I think that cheap monitors can be so bad that they don't effectively do the job of a Monitor - so why not just go to power city, aldi, whoever and get a cheap hifi with an Aux In?

And you'll be able to listen to the radio ...

I know what you mean... it's whatever you're used to anyway. I tend to listen to plenty of recordings I am familiar with... to get an idea of how the speakers deal with stuff I know well.

Maybe HiFi speakers are the way to go. Although I thought the M-Audio ones seemed ok in the shop today.
