Hello all, first post on boards. Been a regular guest for a few years now. Time to input i think.

Well back on topic, i bought my first Airsoft last night. Ive been reading many many posts on various types and prob went against the common advice and went for a pistol.

    kjm9.jpg
Got green gas and .20 ammo

Well i cant wait for it to arrive, hope im not disappointed. It sounds like a great sport and as i never shot a airsoft of any kind im extra eager to get going and see what its like.

I was torn between the real deal (A shot gun or rifle of some sort) and an airsoft. I went for the airsoft as i really do believe ill get more enjoyment from it. I couldnt see my self killing an animal just for the crack. Its cruel!
Target would just bore and is also the same thing over and over. While the airsoft is cheap in relation to the real deal , better on the conscience and you get the chance to be rambo:D without the prison sentence or coffin appointment

Well thats it , Shoot ya soon

Not trying to throw a spanner but if you want to skirmish then you'd be better of getting the pistol order canceled and ordering an AEG instead.
If all you want to do is some garden plinking then the pistol is good.

yeah well said, as i was saying i went against the advice i read on posts regarding what to buy first, Ill get an AEG when i get around to skirmish alright. The pistol will do for a back up.... While we are on the point though, any 1 recommend a really good AEG?, bearing in mind quality and performance

I know a few guys from Dundalk who just started and from their variety of AEG's bought the best seems to be the jg G36c, I started with a cyma AK-47 only because it was all I could get at the time that was any way good for the price (pre august 2006 ye see) :D:D

JG 36c or G36k or perhaps a JG MP5 model for the price conscious.
All reliable. Magazines easily available & found in most airsoft stores.

Congratulations on your purchase by the way.

Welcome to the world of airsoft. :)

Best to try before you buy. Get along to one of the sites and have a look at the range of AEG's being used. Most people will be very happy to let you have a go/look. You might find that you prefer the feel of a certain aeg over others...

Thanks, Ye will do, im not sure which one is handiest for me. Im based in the midlands. I may get gear too. Bit of shopping ahead i think. Am i right in saying goggles are the only saftey gear needed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭Walsh475

u can go for googles but i would recommend getting a full face mask unless ur a fan of bbs in the face :D and welcome to the wonderful world of airsoft

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭enviro

You see i didnt think of that, well since i have neither shot or been shot, i have no idea what sort of power to expect. Seen a toy gun which was not gas or electric just a spring i think. You know the ones many people bring back from holidays, not very impressive and cheap. i know from what ive read on here the proper airsoft ones are much better. prob same ammo tho??? Cant wait to see my m9 when its deliverd!:D So full face mask ya recommend, Thanks.

as Walsh said; a full face mask is a good investment (or just dont ever smile while gaming:p) - nearly impossible:D:D
Probably the nearest site to you is GTAC near Portumna. Usually open every Sunday and it's a brilliant site with acres of woodland.

Grab yourself a good pair of boots aswell the essential imo keep your feet happy :D

If you aren't going to be skirmishng for awhile, you did exactly the right thing by getting a blowback pistol.

You'll need an AEG to skirmish effectively, but a gas blow back is hands-down no doubt absolutely totally and completely the most fun to shoot :)

If anyone disagrees with me, just ignore them - they're mad !

shiva is getting older ?pistol?after running around drogheda for 6 hrs i dont blame you lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭enviro

Yes im gonna wait for a while to skirmish, The pistol will do for a bit of target out the back. Are skirmish events held every weekend? Are there regional or a national league for teams

a gbb with a few mags would work in the warehouse

GBBs are the most fun to fire, the kick, the slide racking back, that satisfying click as it racks the next round. For a first purchase I'd say you did well. Not gonna really work as a primary in a skirmish, but if you're into airsoft it's hardly gonna be the last gun you get. Personally I got a CYMA AK for my first AEG, I still use the thing regularly, apart from a SA80, it's the only AEG I've bought so far which has stood up to my grueling punishment of maximum use, minimum maintenance. Word of advice, look after your airsoft equipment and it'll look after you (this is from someone who currently has a broken 416, 249, m14, 2x 1911s all from lack of proper maintenance)

apart from the facemask, the most important thing to get is a pair of good boots, I cant count the number of times I would have busted my ankles if it hadn't been for the support of a good pair of boots. Knee pads are also essential if you ask me, you're going to be kneeling on a lot of strange stuff, sharp rocks, bbs, funny smelling mud, a good set of knee pads will save you a lot of discomfort.

    Hey enviro.

Good choice on the M9 I have one myself though it's true to skirmish you really need an AEG. Personally I have an mp5 which is neat and easy to use. Perfect for a first weapon and they're not too expensive. Mine was around €110 and I've never had a single reliability issue. Saying that I'll probably upgrade at some stage. M4A1 is a great gun too and from what I hear very well built.

Best of luck with it all.

Yeah i had my eye on a m4, very nice bit of kit. What make or brand would be a market leader in your opinions guys?? Quality and performance would in my opinion be most important factors

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭Walsh475

it depends on really how much you want to spend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭enviro

Well i dont mind spending a nice bit, as id rather get the right one first time round and i understand ill pay extra for quality. Id like one with a few bits like a scope, laser ect...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 562 ✭✭✭Busta Hyman

seriously dude a dboys with a guarder hopup = nice price and good solid performer

otherwise go for a g&g (i like the ak they got)

Whichever AEG you decide to go with - make sure and get from a good Irish seller who will provide backup, information and help.

All the makes will have their fans and detractors - go with one you like the look and feel of to start with... it wont be your last I can assure you.;)

You won't get an aeg that comes with scopes, lasers or similar accesories. High ends don't even come with batteries. Accessories can be purchased afterward, depending on the type you select. For example, a JG MP5 won't take a sight without a rail mount being bought too and it won't take a flashlight/laser without replacing the handguard with one with that provision. However, if you look at the DBoys M4 CQB, you can stick whatever you want onto it as it already has plenty of mounts. The best you can hope for when looking for included accessories is a foregrip or maybe a barrel extension.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭enviro

Thanks for the advice people, Ill buy Irish alright handier for returns/problems ect... as well as supporting the green of course. Well if thats the case with add ons , ill just buy the basics and add on the luxuries. Id love this one.

M4A1, Troy type silencer, Aimpoint Comp M2, carry handle RIS adaptor.
I'd say, at a rough guess you're looking around 280-300 for that set up, minus the paint job obviously.
The Aimpoint price varies depending on where you get it but you're looking at around 60-70 for it on average.
The silencer is a personal choice, there's various sizes and shapes, that'd be about 30-50.
The RIS on the carry handle for mounting the Aimpoint is about 10-20 but isn't completely necessary as the carry handle is removable, revealing a rail underneath it anyway. I think the owner of that one was specifically going for the Gary Gordon/Randy Shuggart look.

Looks like a black hawk down style armalite. That particular one seems to be a classic army or gp xm177e2.

That's what I mean, Gordon and Shughart were the two Delta snipers. Shughart used an M14, Gordon used an M723. An M4 comes close enough to make a good imitation of Gordon's rifle, especially if it's a first AEG and/or you're trying to be cost effective. The DBoys M4's are rock solid so it's a good platform to build a basic custom like that from.

Some of you know the story with my one. In fact, I've taken it apart so many times, and has it fail with something else, and other carry-on, that I've actually given up fixing it. So close to having it working, and yet...

Probably bad luck though, because it seems solid enough apart from the problems I had. But JG G36 variants FTW! There's also an Austrian rifle...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,292 ✭✭✭enviro

Would i be right in saying JG AND G&G would be top brands and advisable purchases? oh and Tokyo Marui

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

There's a lot of top brands, it depends on how much you want to spend and what it is that you want. For example, DBoys do an M4 for a budget price that's pretty good, but if you specifically want an M733 you'll have to look at G&P gear. If you're looking at a G36c Star and TM do great ones but JG do one that's just as good for a little under half the price.
It all depends on what it is you want and how much you want to spend on it.

Well my budget would be 300 but would be pushed to 400. It would have to be all in though, add ons ect... I am only starting out after all and havnt been bitten by the bug yet. Although i CANT WAIT for my m9 to arrive!!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

The most cost effective thing would be to go for a clone and get some extras with your saved cash. Depending on what type of rifle you want DBoys or JG would be your best ports of call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭G3-Nut

no dont mind dex, go for a Taurus/Well....or buy a TM but replace the internals with CA sportsline internals

    cant go wrong there:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

I once said the only thing I'd ever use a Sportsline for was a paperweight. One gusty day, when taking a break from skirmishing, one of the players left their Sportsline down on a slight slope. The wind picked up and actually flipped it over, proving that it's not even any use as a paperweight.
