Accident Black Spots

Am I the only one who is totally baffled by the Govt's attitude to accident black spots? The op in this thread has suggested putting speed cameras at every black spot in the country. On the face of it a good idea but why is the underlying cause of the problem never addressed? There are some horrendous bends, sections of road with incorrect camber, impeded visibility at junctions, blind hump-backed bridges etc etc that have been claiming lives for years yet nothing is done about them. A total abdication of responsibility for the roads seems to be the policy, stick up a black spot sign and that's it. Some of the accident black spots have been ackowledged as such for so many years that the black spot is faded on the rusty warning signs. No doubt that speed can be a factor in accidents but that is true of every metre of every road in the land. Is there a strategy to do something about these death traps or will the Govt just continue spending its entire motoring budget building motorways?

Realigning roads does take place to an extent but there is more money for FF friends in building motorways as you say.
