    Hi,

I've searched the above subject already but without much luck - lots of similar threads but not exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for a DVD player with a USB port that will enable me to connect a external hard drive (200GB+) to and play DivX movies directly.

Has anyone out there got a DVD that does this? If so, could you let me know the make and model, as I'm sick of going into Currys and stores like it, asking the same question of guys who dont seem to know what a divX is...

Anyway, any info would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

Maybe your looking for something like this,
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/685025/art/lacie/lacinema-premier-1-tb-mul.html

more of them here, just happened to click that one first.
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/10222/xx/xx/101/9/criteresn.html

They're called multimedia hard drives, and connect directly to your tv. If you already have the external hard drive though I suppose this isn't much good to you.

I'm sure you could get a dvd player that would let you connect your hard drive. I'm fairly sure you can do it with the PS3 and XBOX 360.

    Just saw this,
    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/1772722/art/iomega/screenplay-tv-link-usb-2.html
it lets you play your media files from a hard drive / usb key. No dvd though.
I'm not endorsing pixmania or anything either!

I'm certain alot of new dvd players would have this function. Hope that helps.

    PS3?

As an added bonus, it'll play blu-rays, _and_ to sweeten the deal, you can play some sort of "games" on it.

    ching9000,

I've merged your threads, in future please post your question in one forum only, if it's in the wrong place it can be moved easily enough.

    Ritz.

Pretty much any recent DVD player with a USB port will do this. Mine is a 69 euro Philips! Note that some players including mine can't supply enough power to the drive so make sure it has an external power supply.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I cant seem to find any of these buggers! I've tried all the usual online elctrical stores plus Currys and the likes, but with no avail. Where, may I ask, did you get yours?

The Philips DVP5990 should do the trick for you - see Powercity, €99.95, see http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-19-P5990

Full details of player here: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/dvp5990_37/dvp5990_37_pss_aen.pdf, says that multimedia playback from USB includes Divx.

I actually came across that one but was put off but the " USB INPUT FOR JPEG PLAYBACK." comment, but thanks for the full spec link.

    Cheers Ritz!

Anyone know how this player handles Xvids. Using a philips Dvp 630 at the moment and is Divx certified, most times will play xvids but others not. I presume its to do with the way they were encoded. So really looking for a player that will play everything

    Thanks
