Gleann Na Ri

I'd have to say Gleann Na Ri is an extremely noisy place to live.

Maybe I'm unlucky in that my apartment is surrounded by apartments occupied by people who feel the need to play their **** taste in music, loudly, ALL day and night long.

The bass tracks of said **** music seeps through the walls and by the time it reaches my ears it's just this monotonous, repetitive thumping annoying noise.

Maybe it's just me but if I'm coming home at night drunk, I thread lightly, make as little noise as possible and head to bed. What the **** is with people coming in at 3am and shouting their heads off in the corridors?

Yeah I know, you’re a mad hoor in your drunkenness, you’re so cool and all that, but seriously...SHUT THE **** UP!

I know most of the people who live here desperately want to conform to the stereotypical student demeanor, I do feel pity for your weak minded conformist ways, but a little consideration for people around you wouldn't hurt.

I know when you're "partying", playing your dance "music" at unreasonable levels, you may not realize it, but in the back of your mind you're thinking to yourself, "god, I'm so cool. I bet everyone in the apartments surrounding us thinks there's a mad party on in here, full of mad, cool people."

Well just to let you know I think you're a ****!

(dance music is not music btw, it's just a fall back for people who actually have no interest in music at all, but convince themselves they like it because, again, it's conforming to a pre defined persona that is attractive to you)

Oh and another thing, it's one thing to keep me awake till 3am every night, but what’s this recent phenomenon with gob****es starting to play their **** music at 7.30am in the morning???

Can you not do ANYTHING without a soundtrack?

Get up in morning - play **** music
Make dinner - play **** music
    Take a piss - play **** music
Pack to go home - play **** music
Have the LADS round to coalesce in a session of being mad hoors - play **** music.

I use headphones to listen to my music (profound, meaningful, inteligent, beautiful music) because I don't feel the need to push my musical taste onto others to display my coolness. Are you taking notes?

I lived in Gleann Na Rí for two years in college...i used the following to help deal with the dreadful soundproofing:

You're in a student apartment complex...get used to it!

If they play bad music, you play worse music back twice as loud.

If they have parties late at night, pull an all-nighter!

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Go out at night so you're not in the house all the time!

When out on the town, make it you're mission to end up in someone else's bed!

Eh that's not very helpful at all, you're just further reinforcing this student stereotype that he clearly isnt interested in. I feel for the guy/girl because I would feel the exact same way if I was in the situation.
The amount of horror stories I hear about that tip is unbelievable. It'd do my nut in, especially if you had exams to study for.

This is a bit crazy. I know what you mean about the noise there though. Its not the best place to live. Noisy, damp (was in my apt anyway), poor internet connections. You've gotta expect noise though. Why didn't you move into a house? You can easily ask to be moved to another apt....take your chances? Good luck.

You should report noise or complaints to management (day) or security (night), thats why they are there. I know a good few that lived there with no problems. Untill you start to complain about things there won't be much done about it. After all it is a student complex and there will always be noise added to that you are in an appartment with 6+ other appartments around you so someone is nearly going to be always up in one of those appartments.
Only thing you can do really is complain, ask to be moved or move out as nothing will be done untill you try and help yourself.

The next time theyre playin loud music, ring them . Thats what i did when i lived there. I think you put 5 before the number of their appartment. And if they dont turn it down then just ring security. That, or ask to be moved if its still bugging you.

three complaints to security and they WILL have their electricity turned off.

    FACT*

I know, because i threw one party and it happened to me! :D

Just talk to management, honestly that is what they are there for. There is also a maintenance team there so if you have damp or problems ask management to sort it out! I lived there for three outta four years of my degree. My only complaint was a washing machine is badly needed in each apartment!

I would also pick gleann na ri over Glasan ANY day, ya wanna talk about kips... theres a major one for ya....

*Disclaimer*(unless of course the SU presidnt or vice president lives beside you...in that case goodluck!)

Lived there for five years..... Had noisy neighbours but that goes with the territory. If it kept happening on a weekly basis, a wee chat with management usually got them moved... or goit me moved to a different apartment. You have to be realistic, its college and rules were made to be broken, and a couple of students, kittled on the grog playing loud music is pretty low on the scheme of things.

I was 24 when I moved in there, got living with another lad and we got on the finest.
Management will fix you up with someone if you specify well in advance, and for some reason if you end up living with two total numbnuts, management will move you if you ask nicely :D:D. There is that many apartments in the place its easy to shift people about.

Location is fairly quiet, especially at the weekends, it was like a ghost town. A lot of pople complained about the internet access, but I never had any trouble with it. Its fairly accessible to college, I had a car so I wasn't too bad. Kingsvalley hotel at the top of the road is good for footie games and a few beers midweek.

Overall, I found it good. Even stayed on for a year or so even when I finished college.
