Story dude. I do this course. It is absolutely amazing. Really opens your mind. Very very challenging though. Don't let that put you off. Bit of hard work and its do able. Then theres cool little perks to the course, like the small class sizes, the dedicated computer labs, the location of the Elec Eng building is fairly perfect too. Basically its great and the odds of you regretting it are far lower than with other courses as far as I can tell.

    See you next year ;)

    None at the moment unfortunately.

I'm in fourth year this year and I'm fairly unlikely to get anything decent I reckon.

By the time you've gone through the mill it should have come back around again though...

Check out this thread for some good (if somewhat heated!) discussion on the course.

Hopefully that will be the case for me anyway!

What about the social side of things? Did you find that the hard work impacts alot on nights out and the likes?

Fitzy will back me up here in saying it's quite possible to enjoy a great (read: reckless) social life and still get through the course fine.

I went to less than 15 lectures last year (3rd year) and still passed all my exams first time round. This included at least five nights out during the three weeks our exams were on. I got a great Work Placement position with Intel as well, so don't worry about it from a social life aspect.

The real secret is the continuous assessment. Try hard in the labs. Do good reports and get stuff in on time. This has often meant all-nighters for me the night before a project is due, but you'll get through it when you have to.

If you can come out of your continuous assessment with marks considerably above 40%, say somewhere around 55%, then you'll be extremely well set up for your exams. You'll be able to pass 1st and 2nd year with relative ease if you do this.

    much respect!;)

    It's all up there man.

To be honest - I've gone out and been locked more than the vast majority of people I know in any course (definitely in my course), and like I say passing is still doable.

If you're not inclined to be completely off the rails (like if you'll actually turn up to lectures occasionally) it'll be more than I've done and you should be still able to get a 2-2.

A bit of work here and there and you'll be pushing for a 2-1 reasonably comfortably, that's how it's been for me anyway.

This man speaks the truth about himself. I'm in the same class and yeah its easy enough to pass in summer or the repeats if you just tip away at the work. First year and second year results don't matter so as long as you cop yourself on a little bit in third year you should be flying along.

Very good course to do. I've finished the course three years ago and never had a problem finding a job afterwards. I currently work in a bank after 2 years in engineering company (change of scenery more than anything)Get a min of 2.1 and you'll have no problems afterwards!!!

The exams in third year are so tough compared to earlier years(as you have to squeeze a year into 7 months - to go on co-op), so put the head down and head into the boole on a fairly reg basis.

Final year was tough, put definately more manageable than third year.
If any one needs more specifics PM me...:pac:
