    Hi All,

    Bascially i've been foreced into to new role within my company. Given the current market conditions there's alot of movement within my company. Would be flattered in normal conditions but they have no option but to move people from operations. Previous role was operations within the financial services industry but i've been moved to a product develpoment role which is ultimately where i want to be. Thing is, its quite a steep learning curve at short notice.

    Background is I am an assitantant mangaer and now dealing with people well above my station, heads of my existing company and heads of UK and europe etc.
    Have gone from being the fountain of knwoledge within my group to the clueless one. Today I went I a conference call and could contibute zero but listen to the more informed. I had two options during the CF, spoof and be found out or listen and gain information (i choose the former). Some of the questions I had were actually major issues with these people and im disgusted I wasnt the one to ask them (i just kept quiet).

    When I was younger I dragged info and knowledge from every source to better myself and no matter how stupid the questions I asked them to better myself. In a different legaue now and feeling a little disjointed.

    Just wondering is anyone else has had similar experiences?

    I would suggest to Take it slow and build up the knowledge required. you may be able to bring in some of the knowledge that you already have and apply it to your current projects, and from there you will have the confidence to spread out.
    Personally I have no problem in saying i dont understand that, can you please tell me.
    or (I dont understand that and i dont need to know :))

    steep learning curves are what makes life interesting !

    you cant be expected to just slot in and know whats going on.

    talk to people and do what your doing.

    be honest ask question listen and take notes..

    you might get feelins of being a bit of a fraud etc

    just keep focused

    Believe me I have no issues asking questions that seem obvious, but cannot ask those questions in a conference call with other departments in another location (would look bad on our hub). My head of deparment was in on the call who apparently forms decisions on people within seconds of a stupid comment.

    haha i love those kind of dept heads alright :)
    make a list and take him aside at the end and ask him.
    or send emails out to who would know maybe ?

    Well get on to who ever can answer them after the call.

    get names of people to contact call your own conferences with who ever needs to be on the call explain the sitaution exactly as it is and talk to them dont be afraid of feeling looking stupid if you're in a job where people get sacked for asking a stupid question well you can't control what people think about you but you been put in a position and if you need to do it well you need to ask questions you need to be informed

    what do they expect you to do? wing the job for the next 6 months and hope for the best?

    have the not started some sort of hand over procedure?

    sounds like a really bad company to work for imo

    Ha, my head sits in a seat with a beatiful view and possibly strokes a cat whilst it sits content on his lap! He's an evil man but has formed a view based off nothing but a call i was involved in!

    Thanks for your input bell,

    Not a bad company and an industry leader and considering the current market doing exceptionally well. Its a new product and theres little information within the current company if any (dont have the contacts).

    High level management is obviously very good but at a lower level a bit lacking. If there was a fountain of knowldge my i'd ave my lips around it!

    My issue really is moving from a middle management and dealing with people 10 years above my station

    its an act :)
    if you are an officer in the army, you need to give orders to company sergeants who have served for years without thinking. If you have the confidence and the knowledge then you will be grand.
