Ok guys just hoping i can get a bit of advice/help

I bought a new tv LG 32LG6000 this one http://ie.lge.com/products/model/detail/lcdtv_32lg6000.jhtml and using it with a Dell Inspiron 531

As this is my first time doing anything like this i would like some advice before i go and start buying bits and bobs for it.

Have it set up as my main monitor at the moment, just a couple of questions
    • Im using the standard vga connection, my tv has a dvi connection i take it i am better off switching to a dvi connection for better picture quality?
    • What would be the best kind of resolution to use? At the moment im using 1360*768 but can go up to 1920*1080, should i use the full HD res?
    • Soundwise i would like to use the tv speakers, at the moment im using a set of Philips pc speakers, what would be the best method of connection for the audio from my desktop to the tv itself?

    - DVI would be better; HDMI would be best
    - Whatever looks comfortable to you
    - Easiest audio hookup is via HDMI as you only need the one cable for A/V. Else you need to get a 3.5mm to RCA cable like this:

I have a problem connecting my PC to the TV so that the audio from the PC plays throught the TV speakers.

The TV and PC are connected by a VGA cable and 3.5 mm RCA cable. My problem is the audio just does not play when the source on my TV is set to PC. While trying to figure this out I removed the audio cables that I use for my XBOX 360 and which are plugged into a section on the back of my TV called component and inserted the audio cables from the PC into these sockets, low and behold the when I change the source on the TV to component I get my XBOX picture up but with the sound coming from the PC.

I am at a loss as what to do next. So to sum up I believe I have the right cables to get this done, I just don't seem to be puting them in the right place.

    System Summary
    Samsung LCD model LE40R74BD
DELL Inspiron 530s connected via VGA (Video) and RCA cable (Audio)
xbox 360 connected by Xbox 360™ Component HD AV Cable
    SKY+ box connected via SCART

    Any help much appreciated

For the connection i was just thinking about going with this HDMI/DVI http://cgi.ebay.ie/5m-DVI-to-HDMI-Gold-Cable-V1-3-Video-HDTV-Lead-1080P_W0QQitemZ220328157786QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item220328157786&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308 so im hoping this will give me the best picture quality??

Yeah im kinda stuck with regards the resolution dont know what setting to use, this setting looks grand but if i go to the higher resolution it just means setting a higher DPI for text on the screen nothing major there thou.

I have an audio connection like that tried it last night but to no avail. I have it hooked up to my HiFi at the mo to use with my iPod. Computer's can be so finicky at times.

    Much appreciate the help :)

if you can, use HDMI, if not DVI, then VGA last
there is a noticeable diference between HDMI and VGA.
you should also use the highest posible resoulution (native resolution) as it will mean any SD videos will only get scaled once rather than once by the PC then again by the TV.

in terms of audio, if you use HDMI and the PC doesst support audio over HDMI then you will not be able to get sound from your TV
if you use VGA or DVI the tv will have a separate audio input that you can use to get sound from the PC

i've done a bit of googling in relation to your particular tv model and apparently,
if you use HDMI 1 you will get audio in via the 3.5mm jack under the VGA input

you can get the manaual here -
    http://www.superfi.co.uk/extras/LG/LG_32LG6000_manual.pdf

see page 26 for setting up the pc audio.

it seems that your tv native resolution is 1366x768 so you should stick with that if its the native res (1080p will be scaled down to fit)

Only as good as the weakest link, which in thine case is DVI. Which is still much better than a VGA connection. The best picture quality would come from a pure HDMI to HDMI connection technically, but I doubt there is any real difference between DVI and HDMI. try googling "DVI vs HDMI"
