It's a very well put together video. At last, a taxi driver who is able to present himself on air with dignity, and talk reasonably about the realities of the industry, without alienating people with the more typical aggressive posturing we see during strikes or demonstrations.

The taxi regulator, Kathleen Doyle, makes an embarrassing appearance before a Dáil committee; yet no matter how inept her performance, she remains entirely unaccountable for the depletion of standards in the industry.

The video here is about 24 minutes long. I have seen the full video, but there seems to be a flaw, it ceased running here after just two or three minutes.

Do take the time to view it, whether you are a driver or a customer. It might be possible to do a search on Youtube for the full version.

God help us all,but if this Ms Doyle represents the prevailing standard of "Regulator" being appointed by the Government then we really are fcuked.

As Hyde Road states, this womans performance before the Oireachtas Committee was at best embarrassing, but in reality it should merit a clawback of any benchmark payments or bonuses paid to her.

How many references in that 20 minute piece did she make to reviews, audits, studies and travels to perform same ?

Sadly as the country`s standing slips further down any meaningful scales our Government appears to believe we need more Kathleen Doyles to become involved in running our businesses.

What is of some importance is the rapidly increasing perception, both within and without the industry of its tendency towards illegality in all of its forms.

Whether it be illegal vehicles, drivers or practices, the public are quite obviously not being protected or even considered by Ms Doyle in her many and various colourful projects.

As others have pointed out we are faced yet again with that old Irish situation of everybody being in-charge but NOBODY being responsible.....

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

Only watched half of it and was expecting some major ranting and complaining but the driver is very articulate and puts his points across very well.

    It's a good production

    It's nearly 25 minutes long.

    Needs to be more concise.

Besides that though, have you any opinion on the points raised?

I posted that after watching half that.
I did watch all of that afterwards. I'm not capable or willing to post to long and fantastic analysis of taxi situation in Ireland.

All I'll say is they have picked a very good representative. That driver who is on most of the show is well able to speak and extremely articulate. Makes a change from a stereotype of a foul-mouthed ranting driver.

And I have to lol at the Kathleen the taxi regulator, audit that, consultant report that, yawn she is no different to a government minister looking to deflect blame

Feel sorry for those guys in the game longterm. Just too many taxis, not enough customers.
