    Hey guys...

I saw this awesome photograph style a while back and I've been thinking of a great use for it with a college project I think I might do...

Im wondering...how are the images created?...is it an expensive setup to create such images?..

My friend think they are photographed images..but others say is a lense you buy...like a fish eye lense but created in a more 360º way?..

I've attached a sample image if you arent familiar with the result...

(file attached is one I grabbed off wikipedia)

    Thanks :)

I've done a few of them myself

I stood in the middle of the garden and took pictures 360 degress around. I stitched them together in photoshop to make a long panorama, squared the image and used the polar coordinates to turn in into a little planet.

That explanation probably makes no sense at all, give me a minute, I'll try to find a tutorial online for you.

Remarkably easy once you have a 360 panorama:

    Here's one I prepared earlier:

Stitching together a panorama is the hard part, but I'm sure somebody will be along shortly to give some advice on that.

Edited to add - I've just seen GITR's post. Compared to mine it shows the benefits of making sure the original photos are properly lined up! The Washington Sq. panorama was taken without the aid of a tripod and it shows.

Found it, here you are - http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/07/06/20/

It helps to have a good tripod but I did this one hand held:

Just tried to do this with an old picture, but it wont work.

I change the pic into a 1:1 ratio (square image) and turn 180degrees, but when i go to filter/distort, the option for polar coordinates is in grey. Anyone know how to solve this?

Go to image/mode and make sure your image is 8bits

Thanks GITR, tried that out, worked a treat. Picture wasnt the best for the conversion though. Il have to go take a better one sometime. Really easy process actually. Hardest hing is cleaning it up after.

All what you have to do now GhostInThe ruins is combine this with your time lapse photography and you might come up with something interesting!

That's a brilliant idea! I'm not sure how well it would work and I'd say it would take a hell of a lot of time and effort, but if done right I would image it would be impressive.

    Watch this space :P
