No now/next EPG on five

    Hi folks,

On my receiver (topfield) there's no now/next epg on five. Is that just me :o or is it simply missing? Did a quick google and don't see lots of people complaining it's missing... I had just assumed they hadn't "gotten to it yet" as the station only recently went fta.

I thought all the stations had to provide the now/next info?

    No epg on fta.
Only on uk sub or ftv card in Sky box.

Chances are that there will become a version of five with now & next info soon.

It took a while before it happened with Channel 4, when they first had a single FTA channel.

Cool - thanks gents... kinda thought that was the case but thought I'd check!

Try page 500/501 on Teletext on Five. That will give you full listing until they sort out their EPG.

Thanks gbluesg... but to be honest it's not that I couldn't find out what's on. I'll normally have the radio times website available etc. ... but I'm too lazy to use it! I tend to click over to the EPG view and 'flick thru the channels' there to see what's on. Because the five now/next is always empty... I pretty much never end up watching it! (don't know how much I've missed of the current program, what's up next, etc.).

The OP is asking aftetr Now/Next info, which is different from the EPG, all the UK FTA's provide Now/Next info, cept Five.

I have a fortec Star 4200 and i get Now/Next for all the FTA's cept Five...

But Digiguide is grand for now.

I believe it's because Five are on Freesat and only provide the Freesat 7 day EPG. Works fine on a Freesat receiver:)

I expect the freesat version of five will not have now and next info until Ch 5 get room for all their Ch five regions on Astra 2d. This could be some time away or maybe never.

In the meantime you could do as i do. Tune in Ch5 FTV version 10964 h 22000 5/6 and place this version of Five next to your FTA version of Five. When you want to see now and next info just switch to this channel. You wont be able to view it but will see the now and next info.

    Does Five do "regions" ???

Yep, there was no now & next info available on the old freesat version of Channel 4 (Labelled 8350), only when the proper regions went FTA did it appear.

    Just four of them, Eng/Sco/Wal/NI.

Another tip along the same lines for those with an FTA box is to tune in the Irish channels on the box. They are scrambled but you can see the now and next info. Can be handy if you are just browsing through channels to see what's on. You might ask what's the point when you can hit AV to view terrestial signal but if RTE are in an ad break then you are none the wiser.

It only works when on a sky box or using a freesat box, not a standard fta box.

Yup - this is what I was asking about, spot on Gerard. No confusion over the freesat EPG (which I don't have) or the sky epg (ditto). Most free-to-air stations have now/next information broadcast alongside them. Most... but not five.

I was actually under the impression that the now/next information was some sort of standard for the fta channels - anyone care to comment on that? I do remember C4 took a while to pull it's socks up and put out the now/next - but they did get there in the end. Just hoping five do the same!

Just uninformed speculation, but i assume they did not provide Now/Next when they were encyrpyed since they were on the $ky-EPG and like C4, it takes time to remember to implement it.

Or maybe they figure the FreeSat EPG is all that is required...

Think its because they share a transponder with BBC. the real five transponder has now and next on a FTA receiver!

    what's the "real" five transponder:confused:

Five has "now and next" info on the encrypted transponder.
On the FTA transponder it has the Freesat EPG and no "now and next" info. Solution - you need a Freesat capable receiver, or a FTV card in a SKY box.

But we are in ROI so why say a FTV card in Sky Box?

FTV cards are not on Irish Sky and don't think we can discuss them as i presume they are illegal in ROI?
