The Irish Film and Television Academy has announced the shortlist of nominees in strongly contested categories for the 6th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards, which takes place on Saturday 14th February at the Burlington Hotel.

The nominees were officially unveiled at a press conference held in Dublin earlier today by IFTA CEO Áine Moriarty and actress Amy Huberman.

    http://www.herald.ie/entertainment/tv-radio/tv3-will-shun-ifta-award-coverage-1595633.html
The embarrassing row over the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs) sunk even further today with TV3 set to boycott the event.

The station has already decided not to put forward any nominees to this year's IFTAs and will also offer no coverage of the event.

The hit show Xpose is set to be issued with a firm order from management not to cover the event which was launched in Dublin.

Hailed as the Irish Oscars, the bash at the Burlington Hotel on Saturday, February 14 is one of the glitziest events on the showbiz calender, with the guest list reading like a 'who's who' of the Irish media and entertainment world.

TV3 has decided not to put forward nominees as they feel it's unfairly biased against them, given that they haven't won anything in the past five years.

As proof of their conviction, a photoshoot with the Xpose team was organised at the same time as an IFTA press launch in the Shelbourne this morning.

A show insider said TV3 doesn't want to cover to an event that they feel is weighted in RTE's favour.

Sorry but am I missing something here?

The following programmes from TV3 have been nominated: -

School Run - Paul Donovan, Grand Pictures (TV3)
How the Irish Have Sex – Martin Danneels, Red Pepper Productions (TV3)
The Apprentice - Larry Bass, Screentime Shinawil (TV3)
Gabriel Byrne: Stories From Home – Pat Collins (South Wind Blows)

Both the Tudors (TV3, BBC) and The Wire (TG4, 3e) are also nominated not that those broadcasters deserve the mention for either of those shows.

While I don't think School Run Should even have a nomination I think that the other 3 all are contenders for the awards.

Perhaps they wanted Expose, Ireland AM and Nightly News nominated.

Hope Man On Wire gets it. Great film. The whole TV3 thing is a bit pathetic isn't it. A bit school playground. Really glad The Clinic is up there. David Herlihy is a really good actor. And why is this the first time that Dominic Mafham has been nominated? He's been brilliant in the Clinic for years? So, i hope he wins! Should be an interesting night.

How come Saoirse Ronan, Patrick Bergin and Fionnula Flanagan were the only people who bothered to memorise the few words they had to say when presenting an award?

And who the hell was that tool Shane Richie? He didn't appear drunk or high just acted the complete twank. I'd love to know what Hilda Fay said to Charlene McKenna when he annoucnced her name.

However, all nominees and winners really earned their place there and can take on all comers from aboard with no hassle. Though IN BRUGES is my personal favourite.
And Tubridy was right, George Morrison is indeed a true gentleman.

Do you think that TV3 will use the IFTA award for The Apprentice 2 when advertising it for next season? And mention that The Tudors one 6 awards.
