Frozen water supply

Our mains water supply froze on Tuesday night. We expected it to thaw out by Wednesday lunchtime but due to the continued cold weather it hasn’t. So it’s now Thursday and we still have no mains water to the taps. The house is located on a housing estate and was built about 3 years ago. We’re the first house on the estate and the only one affected.
Any suggestions as to how to prevent this happening again ?

Locate the route of the pipework as best you can and throw down a kettle or two of hot water over it. It's likely that the route from the road into the house is not dug deep enough, so it may need to be dug deeper and/or insulated.
You may be able to progress this through the Homebond, but others on here may be better abe to advise...

This happened afew years ago in a local housing estate. The water main froze. The Builder had to dig them up, insulate them and bury them deeper. It took a while - local press and local council had to intervene.

The filter on my well froze! The filter burst and I've spent 2 days trying to get a replacement. Can't get one to fit mine so will have to have a completely new one fitted.

Believe me, I know what you are going through. :)

Thanks for your replies. I contacted the builder this morning and left a message on his voice mail ;)
I'll try the kettles of boiling water this evening and keep the fingers crossed for a rise in temperature.

Glad to hear you replaced the filter.
Fortunately the mains water supply to the house had thawed out by Friday evening. Plumber called this morning to sort out airlock in upstairs cold water taps and electric shower. Things are back to normal at last
despite no word from builder
    Thanks for all your advice.
