Problem With 5 series Handbrake?

Hi guys, hope someone out there can help me, i got a bmw 528i and have issue after issue with it.... Well my current issue isnt major but im just wonder am i the first or is it common and there is a quick fix......

The button on the handbrake seemed abit loose... for some reason i was able to take the button out, it is attached to a rod about 6 inch's or more and and "U shape" at the very end, but the end of the Shape looks like it snapped off something else.... Anyone else had this problem or even similar???

Any direction anyone could give me would be great appreciated....

P.s... At present i cant afford to bring it to a garage, so this is the next best thing.
