How to get back at NTL?

Long story short NTL have wasted hours of my time and have yet to fix my service. How can I get my revenge without disconnecting of course!

I think they deserve some hassle for all the time they waste of their decent paying customers.

Thinking mass small claims court claims could be fun! Imagine them getting 20 claims altogether!

Ring the free phone number, leave it on hold and hang up, they are paying for the call..

Guys, be careful! Revenge is not something we do here...

On the other hand, if you want advice about solving your problem, people will be happy to help!

Just keep it on the straight and narrow...

Yeah, a lot of people would be tempted to get one of those dodgy boxes after the experiences you are having, but that would be the wrong course of action. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Go with a Freeview satellite system if you can put up a dish.

Make sure you demand compensation for any and all reported down time. I have always done this and always gotten it. It's usually a small amount but it's something.

I actually did this, and since the start of the week, is UPC free...

When the dodgy boxes are knocked out there will be a lot of people feeling the need for revenge like the OP.

And with the current economic situation I can see many people ditching them and it being boomtime for Freeview sellers. Many only subscribe to UPC since they can use a dodgy box, when UPC kill them off it could be suicide for themselves here.

Would agree this if a FTA+Mpeg4 for Irish channels combined box ever appears on the market.

Most Dodgy box users don't subscribe at all.

It's suicide to ignore them and good buisness sense to kill them off.

Also I think you mean Freesat and FTA sat, not Freeview (UK DTT). Professional install of satellite isn't cheap (a Sky Sub is cheaper up front, more expensive per annum). Some people don't want or arn't allowed a dish.

Some people want subscription channels such as Sport, Discovery, Disney, Paramount (I don't :) )

    )

I think you will find that most dodgy box owners DO subscribe to at least a basic subsription with UPC.

And before you get on my back i do not condone the use of dodgy boxes.

Forget all this dodgy box talk.

End of the day UPC have a pretty strong Monopoly and refuse to provide a good service. I think Prime Times special showed just that.

Is it not reasonable to want to strike back against this and demand better

Boards.ie has a lot of UPC members and potential could have a very strong voice, think of it as kind of social disobedience.

My question is what could a large group of customers do that would get UPCs attention, and before anyone says it disconnection really isnt feasible.

OK I guess no-one knows how many subscribe and how many don't.

No-one NEEDs TV and no-one is forced to subscribe to UPC. It's only a monopoly if you are not allowed a Dish AND want to pay for TV.

Buying DVDs is nearly better value than PayTV and you can get better quality and watch it when you want.

If you have an issue put it in Writing to UPC and the National Consumer Council.

I don't believe that is true, UPC actively disconnect non subscribers after a few months, so most get the basic analogue sub.

Just curious, how much does a dodgy box cost? *

The reason I ask is that the cost of a dodgy box would indicate the cost people would be willing to pay for an integrated DTT/Freesat box.

I think there is a killing to be made for a manufacturer who realises such a box at a fair price point.

    * BTW I'm not asking for myself, I can't even get UPC in my apartment development, Smart IPTV and recently Sky only.

Dodgy box discussion getting a bit out of hand no?

The Irish market is small and conditions are not relevent to say France, Germany or UK where all the main channels are free on Satellite OR DTT.

We are almost unique in that the main 2 channels are DTT/Analogue only free and the main four UK channels (at better level of popularity to TG4) are Satellite Free only.

Thread closed as most of the discussion is already elsewhere and this is serving no useful purpose.

I accept that not everyone with a Dodgy box has climbed a ladder and connected the cable themselves and many may have a basic Digital Sub. However that's irrelevent.
