Dead monitor - got a spare?

    Hi all,

My computer monitor, a 17" Samsung LCD, just died, it won't turn on, now the only way I can control my computer is by VNCing from my N95, and it's quite a pain. Anyways I absolutely need a working computer like right now and I don't have the money to buy a €120 new monitor right now.

What I'd need would be a crappy LCD, the kind that's so worthless that you can't even sell it for 1 euro on eBay, but one that works, so I could use as a spare until I get this one replaced. Does anyone have such a monitor, i.e. some 14" or 15" thing that you don't know what to do with, and could you bring it to me tomorrow (I need it fast) in Phibsboro? PM me how much you want for that, I really need that right now, I can't work until I get it.

Well I could do with a CRT, but then I have no car, so I definitely can't come collect it... :(

Nice link, thanks, but all there is right now is 2 19" CRTs (where would I even put that? lol) and I'm afraid that bringing that back home by bus would be.. challenging, knowing these can weight more than 50 lbs lol.

All these sites are gonna be the same anyways i.e. people give stuff away for free and you're supposed to collect it.

That's not what I want, I want someone to tomorrow take me a monitor, any kind, and I'll give em a 20 € note. Come on I'm sure there's people around here who have some useless spare monitor (just like I have spare-anything, except monitor..) and that they won't even bother to post on these sites. I'm giving you a 20€ for that.

Assuming you are in Phibsboro I can drop a crappy 15" CRT up to you - no charge , just cover my bus fare ! I'm an expert at lugging these things around on buses so it's no sweat :)

Works great, thanks a lot, that helps a big deal hehe. But how on Earth did you manage to make it smell so much like vanilla? And more importantly, how do I make it go away? ;)

EDIT : Ha nevermind, it's either mostly gone or I got used to it.

LOL ! Have you not heard of scented monitors ?

Seriously , I had it in the spare room and it has one of those AirWick pump air fresheners . Open the window for a week or so and you'll be grand ;)

The kids enjoyed their McDs so happy days :)

Thanks for the comments but these things are given away all the time over on adverts . I get to clear a bit of space with the added bonus that I know it's being put to use instead of being stockpiled . Plus the OP paid for McDonalds for my kids so even the wife likes me now lol !

    Everyone's a winner :)
