PC World in Jervis Centre. Pre-owned ones - returned after Christmas mainly because they couldn't get mobile broadband working on them. I just got one myself - in PWO. They've only 4 or 5 of them.

    Mobile broadband works fine.

Not necessarily all modems on the in-built linux, but installing windows will mean any modem should work grand.

Using meteor mobile broadband on my 900 and it works like a dream.

Can you be more specific on the model?

    Sorry - they're the EeePC 4G - Intel Mobile CPU, 512Mb RAM, 4Gb SSD.
The one I got isn't scratched at all - looks brand new.

Ronnie - I know. It can be a pita to set up if you're new to Linux. But it does work. They're loss is my gain :)

(EDIT-Just saw that the problem was with mobile Broadband so the following post is irrelevant reall-EDIT)My 2 sons got the acer aspire one with linux OS from santy:pac:. The only thing I had to do to get them online was type in the WEP key for them and they were ready to go club penguin-ing, weevil-ing and other such children's websites that they and their friends go on. They are also much quicker to boot up than my own laptop.

And much better once you dump Linpus and put on xp instead.

I had to have a look at one of these for someone over the christmas, they were sold the laptop and a three branded E160 modem in the same shop and was told it would be grand.

Of course after much research later I found that the E160 is not compatabile with the Linux OS on the device. But the older model modem works fine.

Very nice little laptop for the price I have to say - I was well impressed :)

I suggest you change that WEP key to a WPA so people dont start using your internet as WEP is very insecure and can be cracked in minutes

I went to pc world in jervis st, they said they had only 1 white 2g and 2 pink 4g left at 6:30. i picked up the 2g, I wanted the 4g but not the pink:o,
They said that I could return for a full refund in 7 days. i might.
    I don't need it! I have both a 13" and a 17" laptop already.
It was an impulse buy, thanks OP.

was the 2g a good buy?

    What do you think?

I respectfully disagree. With Linux you have much more freedom to install software you want not software someone else thinks you want.

What? So if I want to install open office I can on linux but I can't on windows unless microsoft lets me. Is that what you are saying because it's the only way I can interpret it.

Thanks again the OP. I picked up the last (pink) one last night on my way home, luckiliy some lady before me passed on it. Great price for a cool present.

There was just one left when I left - a pink one with no battery. They were prepared to sell it to me for 100 euros before yer wan passed on the other one. Don't know if it's still there but, if it is, you could pick up a battery on fleabay for around 30 quid I'm sure.

(I will also be installing XP on this, the OS on it is grand but it's running old versions of Firefox etc and there are no official updates for it.)

I get what he's saying, might be badly phrased.

The one big thing I've seen with Linux recently is the availablity of good applications for nothing.

Within Windows, if you want to find, say a good tool, you google it, get 20 results, and then have to trawl through them and decide if it's worth the $20 to get the first result or will you download the free software that came in as the fifth result and give it a go.

On Linux, you google it, get the first result, tell Linux, "Please download this" and presto, it's installed.

In my experience, the best tools for any job on Windows are not free 75% of the time. On linux, they're free pretty much 99% of the time.

Too many applications available for windows is hardly windows fault.
neither is the fact that developers see it as a dominant platform.

Linux is a pain for drivers. And i think we ALL know that.

In my experience Linux drivers are better than windows drivers 99% of the time. They are just not necessarily available from day 1.

Back on topic, are any other PC Worlds doing this??

Got one in blue yesterday. Thanks for the tip! Contemplating putting the windows 7 beta on it. What are my chances of it working?

It'd probably just about work but people who've tried vista have ran into trouble, I wouldn't bother personally with anything fancier than xp or eeebuntu. They both work really well.

It was an impulse buy, only 2g harddrive, but mainly I didn't need it. It worked fine, looking at webpages wasn't great, I had to scroll to view the whole page with the font size I'm comfortable with.
