this is the situation, live in a rented shared house, now were all willing to pay towards some form of watchable TV service, sick of getting on 2 to 4 irish station depending on which way the wind is blowing

was going to go with the basic UPC digital, but then scrapped that idea, when on inquery, the name cant be changed on the acc if the person paying on it was to move out, ie, if bill was in my name, it cant be changed to someone elses name in the house, if i was to move, would have to cancel, pay a cancel fee (if in contract), and then the other occupants have to sign up again, we have also ruled out getting a dish, so that probably rules out sky

so considering, just making do with analogue, but is it as bad as some of the posts i'm reading make it out to be, all we really want is something watchable, and a little more choice that the stuff thats on RTE, not fussed about about fancy features, interactive, multi room, have read stuff about the sound and picture quality, would it be similar to what you would get with your attic/roof arial, or better or worse, we currently use a internal one, like i say, rented shared house

is the stations on the UPC site the maximum you can get, and can there be variations to that list as well

any sugestions or tips would be great,

The UPC line up is pretty static. There may be a few variations to the site (channels removed) but nothing big.

You have little choice, Freesat, Sky or UPC are your only other options.

But to get analogue legally you'll still have to sign up to UPC so it's no different to digital in that respect. You can pick up ITV,BBC,C4,E4 for free on satellite (once-off purchase, no contract). All you need is freesat or a cheap decoder such as ones in Lidl. You might even be able to mount the dish somewhere handy such as the garden wall or shed.

A second hand sky digibox is handy as it has all the channels programmed in ( see the satellite page for how to reset it ) you need line of sight to the satellite , you can compare the direction to point by looking at the neighbours
as for height , get a square piece of paper fold it in half diagonally to get a 45 degree fold and again to get a 22.5 degree one, holding the bottom horizontal you should be able to see above roofs on the other, you might have to move down the garden to do this

to get irish channels in all weathers you really need an outdoor aerial , the indoor ones won't cut it
