Hi, I have 2 laptops both running Vista ( which wrecks my head) and they cant update, every time I run updates I get this error code 8000 ffff. I've been on the Microsoft website and searched the web but none of the solutions I have read worked. I have XP pro can I install that on the laptops and will it all the components work?
    :o

    Apparently this does the job:

1: Open up "Control Panel" and navigate your way to "Programs and Features".

2: Click "View installed updates" on the left hand side.

3: Find the update KB929777 and uninstall it.

4: Attempt to install the update again in Windows Update

5: Once successful, restart your PC.

(first result for googling "windows update 8000 ffff")

yeah I have tried this before and I get a message "an error has occured. Not all updates where sucessfully uninstalled." Anyone know whats that all about? If I had Vista discs I would re-install.

Try an alternative uninstaller engine like cclean etc.

When you get the error message after trying to uninstall, just restart the laptop. Then run Windows Updates again. Should sort it
