Yep, that's a good start for kit brewing, and all the stuff will still be usable should OH decide to get into more serious extract or all-grain brewing.

Kitwise, I guess it depends on what OH likes to drink: ales or stouts will give the best results straight off, wheat beers can be hit-and-miss and lager is a definite no-no. Buy the most expensive one you can: you really taste where your money goes when it comes to kits.

Thanks! Think I may go for a stout kit....I'm a bit partial to it myself...:p found one from munton's premium, or do you recommend any in particular?

Its a great kit.. i got one myself from the same company.. great company to deal with btw..

If anything the kit is probably a lot more than I needed.. I basically find myself using one of the buckets, spatula, syphon tube and the hydrometer.. everything else is pretty much unused, so if cost is an issue, you might look to buy the individual items..

Stouts are generally a good choice for beginners, lagers tend to be bad as a true lager need cool fermentation and the ability to cold condition for extended weeks, which requires a fridge.

I would recommend you pay the extra and get an all malt kit such as one of these
