Just got a new Vaio (NR38S 2.0 T5750 with 8400M GT) .How can I stop this machine from running at HALF cpu (and slower gpu) speed on battery power .Needless to say this destroys gaming ability away from the mains (which is surely the whole point of a laptop). If I wanted something to surf the net on battery power Id have bought an EEE ......If I wanted something to plug into the wall at my desk Id have gotten an monster XPS1730 -or just used my DESKtop ....GRRRrrr!

    I have tried everything!
No setting for it in BIOS (only Boot Order)
    Tried Notebook Hardware Monitor utility
    Tried Rightmark CPU Clock utility

It is all the time-it does NOT throttle back up under load ...SuperPi 1M drops from 29 secs to 55!!!COD:WAW drops from playable at 800x600 on min/med settings (not that bad to look at -it is an 8400M GT after all)to sound audible but plain black screen ...A right pain ...I think Im gonna sell this and buy a netbook ...I have a top spec gaming pc with 30" monitor after all.I only liked the idea of the bit of gaming on battery power thats why I got the laptop.

Are there many laptops with this non removable Speedstep on battery only ?!

Is it running vista? If so is it running on the high performance power plan?

There's usually an applet in Control Panel, or within the Power applet in the Control Panel to enable/disable it.

Its always in the last place you look.

Keep in mind when gaming you wont get more than an hour or two out of the battery. I've learned running 1080p video files is the biggest offender: I can drain a 12 cell in 45 minutes with one of those.

Yeah Ive tried all those to no avail.I believe its not 'fixable' at least with the BIOS as basics as it is .Its all well and good having the 3 hour battery life but being forced to run it at low speed sucks...
