White washing wood paneling

    Hi.

I've started my next DIY project. I have installed wood cladding (pine) along the lower half of the wall in my little toilet downstairs. I am wanting to white wash the wood so I retain the wood effect but get rid of the pine colour. I have a couple of questions though

    1) Would it be a good idea to seal the wood with PVA sealer prior to white washing it? I am thinking this would reduce the amount of soakage. The wood is not varnished.

    2) I have seen small tins of "special" white wash wood etc but is it possible to just use a normal emulsion watered down?

    Any comments suggestions welcome

    cheers,
    X
