    Hey Everyone,

Im not sure if this belongs in here so if not Mods feel free to move.

Its not really a major issue or anything but some advice would be welcome :)

I am 24 years old and have no friends who live in my local area. To be honest I am not quite sure why this is.....

I moved to my current area when I was 12 years old and went to secondary school here. However I never really settled in at all and have lost contact with the people I was friends with in school. I was a really quiet child and teenager - some things happened when I was 18 and I never really made any friends because of this. I moved to Galway last Jan but moved home 3 months ago for family reasons. My dad is very sick and I am his full time career.

I suppose thats why its playing on my mind more so than normal. I would like some friends that I can visit close to home so that I am not gone for long etc.

I know I have the ability to make friends as I moved to Galway knowing no one and came back with a good set of about 10 friends. I just dont know why I cant do that here???

Sorry for the long and complicated post! Any advice welcome though! :)

You have posed a very good question,How do you make new friends when your done with college or school etc.
I have friends but nt as many as id like as some have moved on or left the country etc.I did find myself wondering how do I make new ones .I think all you can do maybe is try joining a society or leisure activity etc.You mention you dont live in Galway anymore ,but ont mention where it is you are from?

    Hey,

I live in Drimnagh in Dublin. My problem is that I dont have trouble making friends but I dont seem to be able to make them within the local area?

Well, Dublin's a small city - Thaed's advice still applies. Come to a boards beers, meet some people... then you'll know people in your local area! I know exactly zero of my neighbours or anyone who lives in my area, but I have plenty of mates in and around Dublin, and I lived in Donegal til I was 17.

I love near Driminagh its a young enough area,so yeah some local societies or Even the boards beer nights ( which Ive never been to either) would be a good place to start I suppose.Dont know how you know about the beer nights though.

How you find out about them, you mean? Keep an eye on the events forum for General Beers, and individual forums will have their own meetups, which are usually announced in the forum itself.

My advice is join a local club/gym/something social

I left ireland about 18 months ago. First 3 months were crap cause I knew no-one. I joined a local soccer club & also a GAA club (Irish everywhere people!!); best decision since being here.

Every going to the odd table quiz: I know a few people just from recognizing them from the quiz

When you have a common reference point like sport, its easier to strike up a friendship
