Keep Membership?

    Hi all,

Just wanted some feedback. I'm in a Dublin Club and in the last year have gone from paying a junior/student fee to paying the full whack (1300+). I've been working over a year in the financial services sector but my pay is low enough. Unfortunately I dont play enough (6-8 times in my own club in 2008 due to weather and lack of transportation etc) but love it when I do get out.

Im going to have to take a small loan to pay the fees this year. I've always liked the idea of keeping the membership as I know how hard it is to get and I think it will help my career somewhat down the road. The last thing I want to do is leave and then rejoin in a few years with a hefty joining fee + membership.

Basically what im asking is do you think its worth going into a small amount of debt to keep this membership having longer term goals in mind. I think it might be. I know its my decision but I just wanted other peoples opinion.

    Cheers!

My club have allowed people pay in instalments this year.

Probably see it better to do it this way instead of asking people to pay a full year sub upfront and maybe lose members as a result.

Talk to your club about your situation and see what they can do.

Personally i wouldn't give up the membership, no way. I agree with you about the membership being good career-wise in years to come too.

Not sure if your club allows it, but leasing the membership to someone else for the year could be a possibility.

Cheers for that info Graeme & Trampas, im going to query both of your suggestions with the club. I'm leaning towards renewing now because in a few years my salary will be higher so the yearly subs wont seem like such a massive punch in the groin!

Yes, querying it with the club is the best way to go. Your predicament is an understandable and common one. In the current climate clubs are going to lengths to get and keep members which will be in your favour.

While there may not be any official opption available for you according to the club's membership scheme, they may help you out anyway given your circumstances.

Keep it...you'll kick yourself for losing it when you're trying to get back in in 10 years time..

    KEEP IT UP MAN

OR IN THE WORST CASE I KNOW MY CLUB LETS GUYS DEFER FOR A YEAR IN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES

I think you should leave it
If your only playing 6-8 times a year that will only cost you 300-400.
When you want to join again in a couple of years it won't be much dearer if even . But if the club has a hefty joining fee then that would be a different scenario

Ye i had to do the same last year after leaving college, i was paying 100 every month and i think i'll be paying that much for 3 years. And i played around once a month, i'm just going to get out more this year.

Yeh im the same. Sure hopefully after a few years we wont have to get a loan! Then we can just pay straight up for the clubs we rarely use. Cant wait
