OP, what does the kitten look like? What colour is it? What age is it? Is it male or female? Can we have a pic? Have you called the local vet to tell them you've found a kitten in case someone is looking for it? Have you called around your neighbours, or put posters up in your local supermarket? What sort of state is the kitten in - well cared for, or not so much?
