Just looking at 'The Garage' tonight, it was an old one but they picked up a '61 Ford Anglia with the reg ESU 840, it was a right hooker too.

Was thinking it was an Irish car, could anybody shed any light?

I assume that's the one they tried to restore, but failed?

It's a British car according to the DVLA:

The vehicle details for ESU 840 are:

    Date of Liability 01 02 1997
    Date of First Registration 27 04 1987
    Year of Manufacture 1961
    Cylinder Capacity (cc) 997CC
    CO2 Emissions Not Available
    Fuel Type Petrol
    Export Marker Not Applicable
    Vehicle Status Unlicensed
    Vehicle Colour GREEN
    Vehicle Type Approval null

However, it must have been imported to the UK in '87, so maybe it was originally Irish.

The whole car was completely rotted. There was no floor left in it!

TV documentary-ish show on Discovery Channel about a bunch of Brits who run a garage in Spain. It's quite good.
