    Hi going unregged for this,

Im just after been watching an episode of the sopranos and tony was talking to his "shrink" and I was just wondering are there such things over here?

Like I have had a counsellor over here before during school and all he did was seem to listen and not offer any insight into why I was thinking and acting the way I was. I need someone to reply to me and offer their opinions and insights into what way im thinkin and what way im feeling.

At times I feel like going crazy because I have no one to talk to and need someone who I can get something of my chest with and for them to offer advice on how to deal with whats going on. So could anyone recommend anything/anyone?

Also cost wise, what prices are we looking at?

    Thanks

Best place to start would be your doctor methinks. As far as I know one of my friends asked his doctor about local counsellors and he had a whole page full of numbers close to where he went to school.

Fair play for deciding to talk to someone. ;)

Most shrinks in Ireland require a referral from a GP. So chat to your GP about it and they will normally do up a letter for you to collect the next day.

Councilors can be seen without a referral.

Price wise you are looking at a little more than the price of a normal GP appointment, or more for the very good ones (So expect to pay at least 70 euro, and possibly as high as 150 for an hour of a psychologists time.) Councilors are cheaper, some are free depending on your circumstances and others will charge 30 an hour and up.

I went to a counsellor once a month, and then group cognative therapy once a week for 2 years. Best decision I ever made. It changed who I am and allowed me to work on myself and become a much happier person. It's not an easy decision to make and takes balls, but if you're willing to give it you all, you will reap the rewards.

The counsellor was €70, which was steep. However, the groups was €30 a month. Different people are suited to different types of counselling, so what works for one person may not work for another. But I've never regretted doing it.

    Hey ThumbsUp
About the group cognative therapy once a week, could you please offer some names on where these groups take place? I'd be interesting in attending once a week.
    Thanks.
