Has anyone heard of Lapua Scoremax Ammo hear in Ireland. And if so where abouts did the see it.

I'm loking for a sub thats heavier than 40 and since this is listed at 48 grains i'd love to see it tackel the wind! of target shooting out to 100 yards

I don't think that's been made for some time. I know of a couple of British shooters that found it great stuff, and I think Sparks mentioned using it to me before, so he might know something about it. Meant to be decent ammo anyway.

    Here's a table of Lapua's current .22 offerings-

No mention of Scoremax there, but no mention of Club or Super Club either, so I don't know if it's a complete list of all their ammunition, or just their top end target stuff.

They re-badged their entire line recently. All the new names seem to represent their old offerings, but there seems to be a new one at the top. The re-badging was probably to try eke more money out of it easily. However, as Conor will no doubt attest, it's good stuff.

I've used scoremax in the past. It was/is permitted under ISSF regulations and supposedly showed some advantages in windy conditions; one of the Isle of Man shooters was using it in the Comber Open at the time. He was quite happy with it, said it basicly ignored light squirrelly wind which was losing him points with Eley Tenex. Myself, I never noticed that large an improvement but I was only shooting around 565 at the time, and I only had a hundred or so rounds of the stuff so I probably wasn't good enough to notice any real difference. Mind you, I don't remember any top-level international shooters using it (but then again, they or their teams could be under contract to different manufacturers).

I'm surprised that no manufacturer is making a heavier round for .22. Certainly a heavier round will make shooting in the wind a little easier and especially those light squirrelly winds Sparks was talking about.

A mission for someone methinks :D

I've got some now, will see how I get on with it. Limited supply, so may keep it quiet in case it's really good. ;)

Time to come back and re-visit this. I've had a chance to try out the Scoremax, and pretty much exactly as it says on the tin, it ignores lighter winds. For a slow shooter like myself, the advantage of not having to wait so delicately for conditions is excellent. It also seems to like my barrel, was walloping in 97s and 98s with it.

Pity it's not being made any more. Are you sure it's 48 grain? I'm not asking you to weigh it, but I didn't think it was that much heavier.

That's what it says on the box. And yeah, it's a shame. I've got a limited supply, so probably won't start relying on it for matches or anything, but results with it were good. It's worth an experiment if you can get your hands on any.

EDIT: You'd notice it too. The bullet is significantly bigger.

Is velocity not as big a factor on stability in wind as weight? what sort of speed is the scoremax?

    Subsonic ;)

Lapua don't put the speed of their ammo on the box like Eley do. If you have a chrono, perhaps IWM would give you some to check?

Just curious, obviously it is subsonic so thats a big benefit, but I wasnt aware that various weights were available. Lapua used to have a slightly larger round which I thought was for barrels which were 'more experienced' (dun!!), but I was never really aware of a heavier round before. :o
