I sometimes leave my computer online at night, and at 280 watts on average usage its probably a waste of enegry.

I was looking into a few options for torrenting:
    1) http://www.linutop.com/linutop2/index.en.html its 280euro and runs at 8watts
    pros: low power consumption
cons: no storage, unfamiliar O/S, not gigabyte network
    2) http://www.aleutia.com/products/intel_atom_pc.html its approx 205euro and runs at 25watts
pros: has hard drive, low ish power consumption, any OS
    cons: not gigabyte network
    3) A NAS devise that can handle torrents?
My current machine) uses about 280 watts on average
    **********************************************
    The cost differences are (APPROX):
    1)€0.19 * 0.008 * 24 hrs per day * 365 days = €13.32 per year
    2)€0.19 * 0.025 * 24 hrs per day * 365 days = €41.61 per year
3)unknown, but I'd guess about 60watt which would be about = €100 per year
    My current machine)€0.19 * 0.280 * 24 hrs per day * 365 days = €466 per year

The figures are even less as I realise that I also have night saver (so that means that 8hours out of my 24 are costing about 9cent per unit).

Any insight lads? What should I go with. I would consider anything as long as I'll gain the money back within a year.

I'd go with the second one. The atom processor is actually pretty good especially for light usage and it seems to be quite low powered.

Would you consider a Popcorn Hour A100? Runs at 12V 3A (36W i suppose then...). It's a media player: you can plug in a hard drive or stream from the network, but it is also a bittorrent downloader and a NAS. If you need extra storage it has USB ports to connect external hard drives.

It's bigger brother, the A110 uses SATA instead of IDE, and can also act as an external hard drive itself.

They are both really compact and don't even have fans, so they are silent.
