    Hi,

The high emmisions light has been on, on my Seat Leon 01 (1.4 Petrol) for the last month or so. There have been no problems with the car though it happened before and the mechanic changed a sensor so presume it is the same issue.

Anyway I was travelling to my folks yesterday and went a little to hastly over a speed bump and I seem to have damaged my exhaust it sounds like a friggin boy racers car.
I was wondering if it is safe to drive the car at the moment I am getting a full service done on the 14th of this month.
I don't want to damage the catalytic converter could driving the car damage it?

Also any one have a estimate on the above work
    Exhaust on Car
    Timing Belt
    Service
I am getting it done by a indie mechanic in my area.

Sounds like the normal leon then!
Exact same thing happened to my mothers 01 leon with the exhaust. It was E100 to fix in a quik fit at the airport (in dublin). The time belt job on it is actually a big enough job the whole front of the car and engine need to come off she recently got that done with a local mech he charged around 600 I think i could be wrong. but that is the most he charged. but he is in the wrong part of the country for you. Make sure to change the water pump too. It should be included in the kit but make sure it is, as its all part of the one job.

Service is how much needs to be done/what milage the car is at. Depends on what parts the mechanic uses ie cheap oil etc.

i have a 01 diesel leon and recently have been having problems with it stalling running rough etc.. its in garage today faulty fuel relay of some sort, car was fully serviced before i got it timing belt etc was €600 from main seat dealer service from dealer usual oil filter change is €180, its in with independant at the minute for fuel relay and service so should be interesting to see how it fairs out in comparision

Car has 54K Miles on it. It will be the first timing belt to be done on it. I have the car now I guess 2 1/2 years or so. Think I'll have it for a good bit longer she has never given major issues just bloody sensors and niggly things like relays twice.

    **** so I am looking at around 700 - 800 yoyos ouch?

The mechanic is Bridge Motors in Rush he is excellent.

Front of the car does not need to be stripped as the cambelt is on the side of the engine, engine mount needs to be removed for access.
As mentioned above, insist the water pump is changed and change any tensioners if there is any play or damage.

I've a 01 Leon petrol, too. Exhaust went on me a few months back and was replaced for around €120 in Kwik Fit. Have nct coming up shortly, though, and need some work done on the car. Have been advised to get the timing belt checked, but the mileage is very low (33k) although the car is 8 years old at this point. My natural cynicism tells me that if I bring it up in any garage they're going to say yes it needs to be replaced, and given I know nothing about them, how can I argue? Anyone know how to suss it out yourself first?

The timing belt intervals are 4 years or 60,000 miles whichever is first. If i was you I would be getting that changed very quickly indeed. Its not worth the risk of it snapping. Rubber can perish over time so thats why they have a time limit in addition to a mileage one.

Cheers, I'll bite the bullet and get it done.

I had the same problem with an 02 Leon. Poxy light came on as I was driving to the NCT centre

The garage cleaned the lamda sensor a few times, but it had to be changed ultimately. Seems to be a common fault with the Leon?
