    I've decided to get myself a DS as a late Christmas present but wondering is there any other bits and pieces I should also pick up.

    Do I need a memory card to save games?

    I've seen threads about an R4 cards, what are these? do I need one? Any search online just throws up places to but them.

    Anything else I'm missing?

    You don't need a memory card to save games, the save files are all saved to the game cart.

    The R4 is a cart that takes a microSD/microSDHC card and you can put photos, music, ebooks, homebrew games etc on the card and use your DS to view/read/play.

    Accessory wise there really wouldn't be much you need, a few spare stylii and a case if you are the clumsy type :p
