No aerial reception in Balrothery

    Hi,
I live in Balrothery, just outside Balbriggan in North Dublin. There's a big old aerial on the side of the house I bought. I'm only here 3 years, but I'm guessing the aerial is there at least 15/20 years. I attached a co-ax connector onto the end of the cable from it, and connected to TV - and then let the TV cycle through it's full tuning setup (VH1, VH3 and UHF). I can't get anything. I barely see RTE2 I think for a second, but no proper signal at all. Have any of you had this experience at all? Any advice?

    thanks

    Phelim

A couple of ideas: Perhaps the cable and/or its connection to the aerial has degraded, if it's been there as long as you say. Or maybe the aerial is pointing at a deflector signal that is no longer broadcast.

Can you access the aerial to check if the cable is still in good shape? Also, are there any other aerials in your area? Where are they pointing towards.

Post a picture of the aerial if you can.

The aerial probably has a masthead amplifier attached.

This needs to be powered by a masthead amplifier powersupply indoors. (sends usually 12V DC power up the cable to the amplifier).
    such as this:

If the amplifier is unpowered practically no signal will get through.

Thanks Antenna - spot on, bought a masthead power supply, and I'm now getting great reception .
    Appreciate the help
