Anyone played Hazel Grove in Tallaght, Dublin? I read something today saying it has gone into liquidation. Have to admit i had never heard of it until now.

Any one know much about it?

That's a shame. They had an enthusiastic membership at one time and many good juniors.

The course itself, it has to be said was very poor. 9 short holes on the side of a hill. It's in an area with many other courses such as Slade Valley, Dublin City, Dublin Mountain and South County all within 5 minutes drive so I think guys had been leaving to join those places over the last while.

Sorry to see this as I played with a few of their lads in junior days.

That's a shame, sad to see any course close. I think membership last year was down to about 150 or so, according to one website.

Stumbled across its name in a list of liquidations on the Companies Office website.

Does anyone know if it is still open for play at the moment? Wouldn't mind a bash at it before it closes.

Drive by it everyday from Blessington where I live.

Was very close to joining there before eventually joining Dublin City GC which is quite near to it. Though lucky enough to play at South County now.

It(Hazel Grove) was reknowned for having a suberb Junior level there.

As you say the course let's face it was a bit of a kip. All the holes on the side of a hill, not my cup of tea let's say nor many I would imagine ;)

I know many of the members have been joining Dublin City over the last year or two.

I was looking to see if they had a website and I can't find one but I found this here http://www.dublinevents.com/dublin-golf/hazel-grove-golf-club.php
This course was founded in 1988 and draws out to 5,361 yards. The Par 69 course is best known for its cheering milieu as well as the services it offers to the golfers. A bar and function room is open to all, and golfers may also take the advantage of the changing rooms, both on the course and even down at the practice ground. That is why Hazel Grove Golf Club is known as one of the friendliest and supportive clubs in the East of Ireland.

Is that bit about taking advantage of the changing rooms, both on the course etc. a joke? lol

I remember playing there once about 10 years ago and after hitting our drives on the 1st some kids ran out of the bushes and nicked our balls!

Shame for the members if it's gone though, it's never nice to see that happen.

    .

Yeah there were a couple of guys (age 16ish at the time) playing up at the far end of the course one quiet evening and some little [expletive]s came out of the trees, took their clubs and their clothes and left the lads sitting in their boxers in a burned out car in the trees while they made good their escape.

    Good Q.

Too be honest mate I'm not sure. Like I said I drive by it on the main road and from the road it is blocked out by trees and what not, from the little I can see when stuck in traffic I actually cannot remember seeing anybody on the course. I will find out though...

Haha, indeed it was not! I was a member of a rival crop of juniors at another club at the time and we did get some good mileage out of it though!
