Just in case people were thinking of buying camera gear, here's an interesting article - UK Price Increases.

The big camera makers are going to increase prices, especially in the UK, but may also hit EU/Euro countries, due to the currency fluctuations.

Might be time to buy NOW, rather than wait another week or two.

Any claims that stores make about bringing in parity between Euro and Sterling will be done by raising the Sterling prices more than reducing any Euro area wide pricing.

that is such bull**** !!!!!!!!!
Reminds me off the russian sellers on eBay that switched from USD to GBP for the Lomo LCA after the dollar dropped close to euro.

It makes business sense to them, since the cost of export is getting higher. They still need to make a profit.

We've had a few months now of good Euro-Sterling exchange, so plenty of time to buy.

Unless the kit is manufactured in the UK (which none of it is), then it makes sense for Canon, Nikon etc. to increase the sterling prices, they are getting less and less for their kit sold in the UK as sterling falls so the solution is to increase the sterling price, what else can they do?

I have spent last hour on a phone. They do NOT have a single piece of 24-70/2.8L in the cheaper north of Ireland.

They just don't want my money. Bad for them.

Jessops is about £80 more expensive, but they could give me the lens for today's price. Calumet is cheaper, but they would get the lense "in near future" = after price increase and nobody knows when.

This was discussed a few weesk ago.

IIRC, I posted that Calumet had told me prices would increase considerably due to the exchange rate.
