Hey, I'm going to be buying this book soon and I can only seem to find a UK or Global book. there is no Irish one. So was wondering can anyone tell me which one is used for the Irish varient??

I would presume its the UK one as we use many of their cases as precedent...

another_world, I hope you don't mind me tagging onto your thread! I usually buy my books from the bookdepository.com, it seems to be the cheapest. You could also check the ASDA website to compare the price. I'm also unable to find anyone to buy the book off secondhand.

Second in line if anyone has one! (PM me!) I prefer Kaplan, and also the pocket notes. cheers:)

meant to mention, that I´m pretty sure there is Irish books out there but it would be very difficult to get them through anyone but BPP or Kaplan directly.

There's a book called Irish Law for ACCA student from a few years back.
    Has a green cover.
Sure it's still relevant - try the 2nd-hand bookshops.

    Hi

Mel Kilkenny writes the tax books for the Irish variant...you should find him if you google him.
I will be looking to buy his book also but I have to warn you that I used his books for the CAT tax exam and the amount of errors in the book were astonishing.....totally unreliable.... we ended up using the lecturer notes and not the book.

I would definitely recommend purchasing one of the homestudy kits from BPP who as far as i know do an Irish variant notes kit????

I have looked for the Irish Varient Law book in BPP and Kaplan, and they only seem to do "glo" or "eng" versions.

Doesn't anybody know what the colleges are using here??

Griffith or DBS students we need your help!

As far as I know they don't actually print books for the Iriah variant; I took the subject at DBS last term and all of our study material was in the form of notes distributed weekly for each class. I do know of someone who did homestudy and she tried to use the UK book but when she came along to revision courses found that it had been of little use given the differing legislation and case law (only some over lap with precident in both UK and in Ireland)

    Thanks Froggie01.

Another_world would be first in line for the book if you do want to sell it.

Thanks a mil for the info. I will do another search on the internet for BPP irish variant.

    Cheers:)

    FYI,

The Irish variant F4 book is available directly from BPP.... its €75 plus €12 for postage.

The Exam Kit is €50 and €10 for postage.

Thats a total of €147! I suppose they can over charge as no-one else publishes a similar book...

(The UK main text book is only £30... and its €75 for the Irish one)

You would really want to be buying a new book because you will be working off any changes in the tax system since the last budget. At least i think it is this time of year that the book changes and not the June edition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭Gibbins123

Yes I will get the new tax book, but i think the law book should be fine second-hand

If anyone has thiss BPP one that they used in December exams, PM me:)

    Hi Froggie01

    Do u still have the F4 materials - text,kit & course materials ? Is it for Dec 2008 & June 2009 exams ?

I actually bought the F4 materials from froggie.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 30 Froggie01

    Hi kinetic

Was just about to reply - hope those books working out for you ok

Am struggling with F8 at the moment - It really seems very vague and wishy washy to me at the moment,

Am doing f6 at college and at least thats fairly tangible!

At least F4 you have to learn ,say 5 points and throw in a case and you;d be happy that you coudl get a few marks!

If anyone has any suggestions re F8, other than "winging" it...i;m all ears..

    Hi,

Do you still have the book and the notes? It would be great if I could borrow them.
I took the course 2 years ago and I'm planning to do the exam this December.
The 'green book' (..Law for Irish students) I have is now out of date, it misses things like 'tort' and 'partnerships', so I really need an up-to-date book... :(

    Thanks a mil :)

    HI

Hi,Im looking for F4 book ,if anyone has

Does it matter whether it is Irish or International in the long run?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭lucylu19

    Hi there..

I'm studying the ACCA as well.. I have some books from BPP if anyone is looking for some(highlighter every where though!!) I order mine from the UK as they are cheaper so only have either INT or UK variant depends on the Subject. For F4 I have the INT one for Exams in June 2009.. thing is law changes all the time so not so sure it's good idea to get an out of date one.. up to you.
I'm now on F8 and F9 so have all the ones before them.
Check out the book depository website as well as the official ones.. they have up todate books and free delivery.;)

    hi there,
i called acca and they said that there's no difference in the exam. is that true, cause there def seems to be an irish version book?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭lucylu19

For F4 I think there would be a difference as in the IRISH version I'm sure you would need to know the Irish laws.
I did the International one so it was about all different types of laws and international contract law etc. I think they did use alot of UK law examples.
Maybe check out the past papers of both the INT and the IRE varient and see if they differ. I'm guessing they do!

    thanks LucyLou

Have you still got the F4 out of interest?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭lucylu19

Travist.. I should have it somewhere, it's the global version but I sat it in Dec 2008 so there may be some changes to it as the laws update all the time! You are better off getting the up todate version to ensure you don't miss anything and are quoting the right Acts.
Check out the book depository.. they are cheap and free, fast delivery.

Tough - well I would think so (:-D) but I think my fail will be based on lack of knowledge - it was passable if you'd done a decent amount of study IMO.

Let me know if interested. Found both books good and covered everything that came up in dec 11 exam.

Had two sets of books (long story). That's why this one was never used

Latest f1 available and study text too if interested.

    Thanks

Just looking through and I'm still not sure. Can we purchase F4 the irish variant somewhere online? Would it be ok if an irish student did the english variant?
