Moving Tables in Cash Game

Just wanted to get some opinions on this.

When playing live cash games in busy casinos it is often required to move tables - towards what is conceived as the main table - as people leave. For example, if there are 3 NLH cash tables and someone leaves table 2 then someone from table 3 moves to table 2 and new players join table 3.

Now I hate moving tables in a tournament as I feel you are at more of a disadvantage going to a new table than any of the benefits. To continually move in a cash game really annoys me.

Why can't tables run independantly and free places get filled as new players come in? Maybe only balancing tables if one becomes too short - but in a busy casino this is less of an issue.

afaik in Vegas they keep the tables independant.

I agree, the "Must move" system can get pretty ridiculous sometimes. The system is in place to give "seniority" to the earlier arriving players and ensure their game is the last to break in an evening.

I've played in rooms that had a reasonable policy that any game that has been full for an hour has become "established". So the second table feeds the first one until it becomes full for an hour. Then any new table that gets created becomes must move into the first two, until it too becomes "established", etc. So, generally, there will only be one must move table in the room, and any player will only move involuntarily once. This policy strikes a good balance between the interests of the early players wanting to keep their game full and the ludicrous situation where the floor has to keep a huge seniority list and spend 20 minutes having players play musical chairs when someone on the first table busts out.

As well as it being a pain, I think the casino's can actually be losing some custom because of it. For eg I have seen many times when a player is happy to play away and then gets the call to move table. THey suddenly decide they have enough for the night and head off instead.

Last time I was in the Fitz I was at a great cash table and there was no list in operation (upstairs). Dealer kept coming over saying "who is here the longest". I kept quiet for as long a I could

The whole "upstairs" thing in the Fitz is a joke. I was up there for 4 hours and not moved downstairs. Now although this suited me, it means that they were filling the spots downstairs without moving players up first. So it does seem that htye use it to suit themselves.

I totally agree with previous posts,in that i hate moving tables and it has been the deciding factor on a number of occacions as to whether I go home or not. Although I do appreciate that on a busy night in the Fitz. there could be as many as 8 cash tables running and sometimes moving can be like musical chairs,or you could end up stuck upstairs while other tables are filled by new customers. But what really gets up my nose is the guy who, like last Friday night, dogs every body to the tune of about €600 and then moves downstairs and sits down with €100 again!

The next comittee meeting will have a large list of complaints methinks:rolleyes:
