Can I record Free to Air and terrestrial TV with this?

Sorry if this is a daft question. I have a Panasonic Sky Digibox connected to my TV - it's just the Free to Air version. I haven't managed to get my DVD recorder hooked up to the FTA stations/box - maybe it can't - and I need to replace it anyway as I suspect the drive is dying by the awful noise it keeps making?
Would the above recorder from Komplett work for me? I'd need it to be able to record the terrestrial stations too. Is this a good deal? Or can anyone recommend an alternative? I'm also hoping that it will be straightforward to set up :o
    Thanks in advance

As far as I can tell from my limited knowledge, the answer is no, it's not a good deal. That box doesn't appear to have a satellite tuner, so you won't be able to record one satellite station and watch another and you'd only be able to record from Satellite if you have your satellite box connected to the recorder. Lidl's recently had a dual satellite tuner hard drive with a 160GB HD for about the same price and people here were saying it wasn't such a great deal and there was better value in the north. But if you do want to record one Satellite channel and watch another, you need a dual LNB and you'll need to run two wires to your setup.

Thanks for that, Bozacke - sounds like hard work too :(
I'm not too concerned with watching another satellite channel while I'm recording, I just want to be able to record both satellite and terrestrial without too much/any fiddling around. I mainly want to record programmes when I'm not able to watch in real time - like 2 or 3 AM.
If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd appreciate the input.

Getting something to records both might be a bit tricky. Certainly for recording satellite you could look at the Humax Foxsat PVR discussed at length here (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055428582). Not only with this give you a 7 day EPG + FTA recordable channels but you will also get a handful of HD channels.

Im not 100% sure how you could get terrestrial recording onto it (or if its even possible).

That Yamada receiver looks like it's mpeg2, so it'd be of no use in the Republic unless you're close to the border and able to view the UK Freeview channels.

That recorder is a DVB-T recorder, the DVB means it receives digital television, the T means its a terrestrial receiver. Basically it means it receives digital via an ariel. There's also DVB-S for digital satellite and DVB-C for digital cabel.

What you want is a standard hard drive recorder with an analogue tuner.

I know tesco had some recently for 149 euro ang 30% back in points. I think it was a 160gb Goodmans model.

I have what I think is a standard hard drive recorder already - it's set to record the terrestrial stations but I can't get it set up to record the satellite stations. Maybe it's not possible? Since I need to replace the recorder I'd hoped that I could get one that would do the two jobs - is this possible? Is it even possible to get it to record the satellite stations at all?

I've bought from 7Day Shop before and found them good to deal with, but mainly for small items like cameras - not sure whether we could get a larger item through.

As long as the recorder has an input scart connector, you should be able to record from a satellite box, simply connect the output of the satellite box to the input of the recorder via a scart cable, tune the sat box to the channel you want, set the recorder to record AV and it should work.

I downloaded the manual for the one from 7dayshop and it has an AV input so you could connect it to a satellite receiver.

As already stated, for all recordings you must put the satellite receiver onto the correct channel or on a sky box you can set an autoview reminder to automatically change to the correct channel 1 minute before a program is due to start.

I use my €99 Dunnes / Plustron/Beond DVD recorder occasionally in past on Sky box via VCR SCART.

We cancelled sub so now record the FTA channels direct on PC via cheap PCI sat card.

I will have a go doing this at the weekend - thanks. Since the recorder is on the way out, I might need to wait until I get another one though. Will be shopping around for something in the sales :)

I'd miss the big screen on my TV if I recorded to PC :)

You can hook a pc up to multiple screens, you just need a graphics card with dual outputs or a splitter box.

I have mive connected by vga to my monitor and by dvi to my lcd tv. I also run an audio cable as dvi doesn't carry audio.
