This is from the Garmin so is a bit underreported as I wouldn't always have had it with me and working.

A Mars Bar is 294 cals, blorg's annual calorie burn is 2072 Mars bars

or

175 lbs of fat ( a pound of fat being 3500 cals )

maybe we can launch the blorg diet program ...

i have absolutely no idea how many i did last year. no computer on the commuter, and the computer (bikehut crap) on the road bike would randomly reset itself to zero. i'd guestimate it at about 6k though.

my new toy arrived this morning so i should have a precise answer this time next year. it doesn't count turbo kms though which is frustrating as they're all i'm capable of right now.

i think 10k might be achievable.

i'm not even going to vote it would be 2 embarrassing but last year = not enough this year = more, hopefully work permitting (i guess i may do more now i'm a 3 day week as well) must order those new wheels as well.

I've been tracking my data on sporttracks the last few months. Even though I don't take the garmin on my commute, I still add it manually (take the same route in/out anyway) so it's just a question of track it one day, then copy paste from day to day. It's amazing how quickly you can add up the kms - if I commute an average of 4 days a week, 48 weeks a year, there's 3000+kms straight up before I even do a weekend spin, never mind summer evening ones.

Depends on whether it's uphill or downhill kms

You're right. I used the calories per 100g by mistake.

A more efficient way to get calories from Blorg's Mars bars may be to deep fat fry them. This bumps the calorie count up to 932, reducing the number of Mars bars consumed to 658, with a few calories left over.

Efficiency is important.

Cycling wise, 30km a day, usually around 4 days a week does add up alright. I wouldn't do nearly as much distance on road bike spins. Although I hope to change that this year. Incidentally and off topic, I re-greased the ball bearings on the banana cheapo wheels this morning. Fantastic, I only had to pedal once and cruised all the way in effortlessly.

I dunno what my total distance is, but my commute is about 23km roundtrip. So lets say I do that (52 * 5) - 25 (hols) = 5405km. I'll have to look at SportTracks this eve to find out what I've done in longer spins

I think I might have undersold myself in the poll - I put in 6000 to 8000. Instead of any kind of calculation (like a sensible person would do), I took a guess.
My commute comes to about 7000 so there was easily another couple of thousand in there too. That's mental!

Ah feck .. it's not fair. I can't count my commute ... I live 5 minutes from work. I still cycled between 5000 and 5500km this year though ...
Aiming for the 6000 to 8000 bracket in 2009... need to add computers to all my bikes ...

LoL ... i actually thought of that ... But at the moment I go to the gym after work 1 hours + 40min turbo-ing after the gym at home... I prob won't be able to stay on the bike very long for a while ... so a lot of KM to catch up in February & March !

i spent the day trying to work out my total for the year and it came to 9400 kms . if i had thought about it any earlier in the year i think i could have possibly made it to 10000km. Well at least i have a target for 2009

Under 1000km for me. That includes the Wicklow 200, and a training ride return from Ashford in a taxi.

That's what I do. Commute is only a 25km round trip but I turn it into 55km be going through Malahide and then around the back of the airport on the fixie. It's can get pretty windy out there so is very good for building up the strength. Don't do it every day though, just when I'm not on the road bike/turbo

I am simply amazed at the number of kms people put in even though they have small commutes.

Most of my distance is on the commute ... 48km round trip ... and I had a quick peek and it seems I did that about 120 times in 2008 ... only started in April ... and was off in holidays for a month ... so I think I did pretty well there ... if I may say so myself ...

So 5760kms in commute.
And another 2000kms over weekend spins etc. of which I have record of .... aim to improve this in 2009 and get above 10000kms

I reckon around the 8,000km mark. My commute's 23km daily which is a little over 5,000km plus some longer weekend spins. Doing the Wicklow200 and a few more sportives this year - also plan to get out for some boards spins shortly, so aiming for >10,000 in '09

Ok, after some filtering in SportTracks, I reckon I've clocked up over 11,000km in 2008.

I stopped logging commutes early in the year, and I have them named all sorts of different things so there is a margin of error in there, but I dunno what it is

Ok.Am not long back in the cycling world so have no records of annual kms BUT
I do not commute so all miles/km are training/dedicated miles.
Replaced the battery in the cateye in early Dec and the odo reads at 330.9 miles.

My respect to everyone who does massive mileage without the long commute ... not sure if I would have the time to do so much mileage if I had to commute by other means.

Perfection is a relative concept ... only valid till you show up on the next group spin or you surf wiggle / CRC the next time ... or read any cycling magazines ..... so the state of perfection exists for exactly 0.0001 secs everytime.
