    Hi there,

Can anyone recommend a good external multimedia hard drive.

I'm basically looking for a stand alone hard drive with a min of 500 gb that will play back divx etc. files directly to tv.

    I have a budget of €250 to €300 max.

I've see LaCie and Omega do some nice drives but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

    Thanks. :)

I got one for Christmas & I'm very impressed.
No need to continually burn DVD's anymore.
I just play avi files without converting & I cant notice any quality difference in comparison to VOB's.

Note that although the device says it is a HD player I believe it only works as an upscaler hence you'll need to original 9GB DVD in the first place.

What formats and codecs can this play? And is it updatable for newer codec releases?

Im not 100% sure but , I tested it with piles of Dvix and Xvid files

    off the web site it says "MP3, AC3 (Dolby® Digital Encoding), WAV, WMA, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (AVI/VOB), MPEG-4 (AVI/DiVX 3.11, 4.x, 5.x/XViD) and JPEG"
