Don't think this is out in Ireland yet (IMDB says the UK release date is March 13, 2009) but it came out here last week. Not something I would have been too interested in having seen the trailer which portrays it as your typical rom com. A cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson and Eric Dane further aroused the sceptic in me.

However I decided to give it a go and was pleasantly surprised. The storyline is quite simple -
basically following the development of a family and how their dog is an important part of everything they do
. It is humorous in parts and has one of the saddest endings I've probably ever seen. I haven't witnessed that many tears in a cinema theatre since The Notebook (yes I go see girly films with my missus sometimes) and it was genuinely heart wrenching,
especially if you have ever been a long term dog owner
    .

Definitely worth a look upon its release and reviews seem to have been generally good.

    Filmed partly in Galway.

Based on a book by a journalist in the States and his life with his real-life doggy.

    Looking forward to it.

Lol yeah I noticed that alright. Some nicely stereotypical Irish things in the scenes, which I think last less than 5 minutes.

Im dying to see this film! As a doggy lover! Please can anyone let me know if they have the confirmed release date! I saw the trailer online so so cute!

The trailer was basically a dog running along the beach in slow motion, followed by a shouting Owen Wilson. I can't believe the amount of people that say things like 'OMG the trailer was SOOOOOO great I can't wait'....:D

did they release another trailer since? Because that one was months and months ago...

None of the trailers do it justice. I had horrible preconceptions are seeing them and was very surprised.

I know they are big names and you either love them or hate them but they aren't the main character in the show. As it is, they do a good job.

I cried like a baby for the last ten minutes!

Really? A friend of mine read the book and said it was brilliant so I gave the film a look. I have to say it's one of the worst films I've watched in ages. Nothing really happens. Ok so it doesn't have the typical Hollywood feelgood ending but apart from that it's formulaic with no original comedy. 2 out of 10 in my book.

My gf was in tears at the end and when the lights came on I turned around to see every girl in the place in tears :D

I kind of have mixed feelings towards this - it looks schmaltzy and ridiculous but seems like there's some genuine feeling in it.

I'm drawn to it, and I'm not sure why

I was way to hard to cry or even feel sad at the end of this. The dog had a good life, the owners should have known this and not be sad about it at all

I really enjoyed the show. It was a tad too long and the ending was very very drawn out which made it all the more sad. Must say I really had to stifle the tears. What I did find funny was the gasps from people around me trying to hold back as well, and everyone sitting stock still in their seats when the movie ended.

There were so many bits which had me laughing out loud, not least the bit when they arrived at the new house and Marley made his presence felt immediately :)

    Great show.

    I thought this was trash!

If you want a genuinely moving doggy story, 'Hachi' it is!

Hachi is a great movie about unconditional love and loyalty from a pet.Marley and me is a movie about a stupid dog that just wrecks things-was forced to watch it and after 20 minutes declared if I had a dog like that I'd shoot it with no remorse.
