    Hi all,

I was just wondering does anyone know of any companies that would take on interns in this specific area? I really would like to focus my manufacturing engineering degree on CAD aspects of the product design area. Im goin crazy searching for anything remotely close to this around the Dublin area. So if anyone out there can help please do

By the way i have an ordinary degree in manufacturing engineering.

What kind of skills do you have?

    CAD Pakage?

    FEA?

    Plastic?

Hate to say it but it's really tough out there right now.

Going into a CAD Technician you run a risk of becoming or at least classed as a so called CAD jockey, this may not be the area you want to be product designer. In my opinion it moves you away from actual engineering and all your doing is modelling other peoples designs and you get stuck with that role. Others may feel different.
Certainly be competent in the CAD packages and be able to use them to a high level but be careful when looking to get into a CAD Technician role. Go back and complete you higher degree maybe.

I may be opening a can of worms here!!! :pac:

    hi weedhead
I did a work placement as a cad tech, it was a few years ago now.

I went to ul and we had an 8 month work placement as part of our course.
I did mine in a company in Shannon which was a very good experience, very helpful people that got me involved and so I learnt loads.
They used to take work placements from ul most years, im not sure how they are fixed in this economic climate though.

I think you may have to broaden your search to alot bigger area than dublin to be honest, even consider the north.

how long have you in mind for your internship?

If i remember my wages werent super 8 something an hour but the experience looks good on the c.v.
