Hmmmm... I can pick 7 8 from the top of my head (in no real order).

These threads aren't really appreciated though.

    1. The Dark Knight
    2. Wall-E
    3. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
    4. REC
    5. Slumdog Millionaire
    6. Let The Right One In
    7. Cloverfield
    8. Gran Torino

I can't put them in order so here's 10 of the best films i seen this year.

    The Wackness
    Dark Knight
    The Wrestler
    Frost/Nixon
    Wall-E
    Milk
    The Visitor
    In Bruges
    Gran Torino
    Hunger

If El Orfanato and Tropa de elite are from 2008 i'd probably include them ahead of Milk and the visitor.

Iron man was pretty ok as was hancock. Nothing amazing but a decent watch, no way deserving of being in the top 10. As for the quantum of solace.

    Iron man was pretty ok

Wizard magazine ranked it as the best comic movie of last year and they are supposed to know what they are talking about, but you are right it was an ok movie elevated by a really good performance by Robert Downey Jr.

Best Movies I have seen last year

    Dark Knight
    Cloverfield
    In Bruge
    Step Brothers
    Hellboy 2
    Ironman
    Juno
    Southland Tales
The Mist (Only for the ending)

Sweeny Todd was also enjoyable, but would have been even more so if it was not a musical.

    Worst movie of 2008

Wanted - probably enjoyed it at the time, mainly because of two hours looking at Angelina Jolie but the more I think about it and compare it to the source material the worse it seems.

    Frontiers
    Funny Games

I think comparing it to the source material elevates it, due to the comic being so absurdly obnoxious. A fun film, not a great one by any stretch, but it at least had the 'subtlety' and 'dignity' to ditch the character made of **** and the rape scenes.

Reckon its about time we start the Boards Film Awards ??

Indeed, I think the major awards will be pretty predictable this year. Think we should just give it an honorary "super-special-awesomeness" award and leave the rest of the awards for the significant amount of other good films of the year :pac:.

True that stuff would have needed to be cut anyway, but I mean the General idea
the fact that Wesley, Fox etc were villains who had taken over the world
, as opposed to a group of assassins who got their orders from a Loom.

They are very different for sure (although is a loom any more outlandish than some of the stuff in the comic - wasn't there some kind of elf creature involved :pac:). Film was supposedly put into production after the first issue only, which explains the huge difference between the two. I thought the comic was garbage though, as Millar just seemed to be trying to be as immature and 'controversial' as possible without anything really holding it together.

Again, I only really enjoyed the film as a piece of utterly mindless nonsense (probably just caught me in a good mood in hindsight) but compared to the comic its a masterpiece! It is one of the rare cases where I felt departing significantly from the source material worked in the films favour.

The Mist would have made my top 10 if only for that woefully contrived Twilight Zone style trick ending.
