Question about partial denture...

Can I just ask one more thing -dentist took an impression with some putty stuff, but I am having a panic now - I did not feel the putty touch all of my palate -it didn't hit all the arch of my mouth and he was holding the unit thing against my teeth but not really pressing.

I gather it goes quite far back into the mouth when it is done, do I need to tell him this tomorrow morning before the technician takes it away, or will it be ok? I am so anxious that it will not fit :(

My huge dilemma is that the teeth are coming out on the 9th,and ten days later I am going on a 5 day trip to visit a friend I haven't seen in six years

Am I going to be able to speak do you think? Will I still be in pain? I am worried about after- I would rather not advertise the fact that I have had four teeth removed. How quickly will I get used to having something in my mouth, and will it affect my speech a lot?? I am very nervous.

Dentists look at impressions after they are taken out of mouth and before sent to lab, it is in our best interest as well to have an accurate impression (no need for patient to return for a second one, less adjustments when denture fitted). a week is plenty of time to adjust any sore spots on denture so do not worry, you can return a couple of times to have denture adjusted if necessary, before you meet your friend. We expect there to be adjustments needed so it is no problem when patients ring back

Thank you davo10 -I have one xanax floating around in my medicine drawer -would it be ok to premedicate myself due to sheer terror? I am very worried I will not be able to speak properly afterwards :(

Can I ask you how long on average it takes people to get accustomed to having a foreign object in their mouth?:(

No self medication before treatment. You'll be fine, the thought is much worse then the act. you will wonder afterwords why you are so nervous. bring a friend/family member for support.

Thanks -I have had the runs since Monaday from nerves :( Can't take anyone with me because I am LYING about the whole thing :(

I am VERY worried about not being able to talk, that people will know I have fake teeth, that I am going to look and sound awful, that I will hate it and never get used to having something in my mouth that shouldn't actually be there....that it is going to hurt afterwards.....

Thanks for all the advice -I did it. even though 5 minutes before I had a complete breakdown in the waiting room and said I wanted to go home :(
I dont know about conscious sedation, I feel like I was totally unconscious. Cannot remeber a single thing -felt nothing, I don't know if the dentist spoke to me or not. My nose hurts, and along the gum line from the injection I suppose and am having some throbbing.
Im pretty sure it was as bad as I imagined, but thank god I wasn't *there* to know anything about it.
