HELP!! Graphics Card Problem

I had a very annoying intermittent problem with my Dell Desktop PC (it is an Inspiron 530) that has now become a very major problem. The problem is that when I try to boot the machine, it shows the Dell page and then starts to load Vista (Ultimate edition). DUring the boot process the screen goes blank and then puts up a box saying "Not Optimum Mode. Optimum Mode: 1280 x 1024 60hz". At this point I should point out that the screen resolution is, of course, set to 1280 x 1024 at 60hz!

As I said this problem used to be intermittent and so I have tried all sorts including updating the drivers for the graphics card and the monitor.

I don't know what else to try.

    Can anyone help?? Pleeeaaase??

So can you actually get into a normal display or does it get stuck on this box?

It gets stuck on this box and I cannot get past it. The only thing i can do is hold the power button until the PC shuts down and then switch off the plug board to power everything off and start again after 5-10 mins or so.

    hi there

have you tryed booting in safe mode? this should allow you into the computer and change the resolution settings..

Hi. Yes I have tried booting in safe mode. The problem is that the resolution settings are correct! I have checked them many times.

Go into Safe Mode, set resolution to 800*600, apply, reboot, and problem solved. Reason: the PC thinks your "normal" resolution, for whatever reason, is too high.

have you tried this monitor on a different computer just in case your monitor is defective! also have you tried to boot in vga mode? or boot in safe mode and change screen refresh rate to 70hz may be a quick fix..
