Speedy J has left the days of hard-techo behind him hasn't he?

    Hey,

Happy new year to one and all. Big thanks to all of you who made our first Electric Shock in Twisted Pepper a memorable one. It's a great venue over two floors and the sound is rocking. Both Rachmad & Heartthrob reckon it's the best space they've played in Dublin. Next up in our monthly residency is a double-bill of Speedy J and The Mole. Naturally, The Mole will be burrowing away downstairs as Colin La Plante returns after his last appearance for us back in June. The Mole's 'As high as the Sky' long player on Wagon Repair was one of the hottest releases in 2008 and those of you who witnessed him play back in Wax will know that his DJ skills are easily on par with his production ability. Playing before Colin downstairs will be Ben Morgan of Stereotonic fame.

Upstairs, we are handing over control to Mr. Speedy J who will be delivering an epic (for Dublin at least) 4 hour live/DJ hybrid set. We've had Jochem over to play many many times going back to the Halcyon days of the Metropolitan. Some of you may remember when he did a similar set then - starting off spacey and dark before driving it up over the course of an evening. Expect more of the same in the high-roofed, strobe-lit, smoke machine fuelled subterranean environs of the Twisted Pepper. Building up from dark beatless atmospheres to a rumbling thunder by close of shop, this will be an evening to remember with Speedy J. Playing before SJ will be Giles Armstrong, legendary raconteur and Electric Shock DJ to boot.

Advance tickets are on sale now for e15 from tickets.ie and City Discs. On the door on the night, it will be e20 so do try and pick some up before that.

    Hey,

We have three passes for Speedy J & The Mole this Saturday at the Twisted Pepper up for grabs:

The best set 'we' ever heard Speedy J play was at I Love Techno - can you tell us the year?

    I] 1995
    L] 2000
    T] 2005

    Answers by this Friday please

    Thanks

    E S

    Hi,

Thanks for all the competition answers. 2000 was the year Speedy J rocked I Love Techno to the point where Richie Hawtin let him play 20 minutes into his set time just so he could continue recording the mayhem on his video camera.

There are still tickets available from www.tickets.ie for a recession proof 15 euro or you can pay a Biffo 18 euro at the door.

    Set Times

    The Stage :

    Speedy J // 11.00 - 3.00
    Giles Armstrong // 10.00 - 11.00

    The Basement

    The Mole // 12.30 - Close
    Ben Morgan // 11.00 - 12.30

Not according to what he played last night! Banging from the very first tune, best set I've heard in ages.

Do the electric city lads know if Speedy's set was recorded, wouldnt mind getting a copy or even a tracklisting of it. Thanks.

Brilliant night, intense the whole way throughout. Would also be interested in the tracklisting.

Only remember 4 tunes from the night

Dubfire & Oliver Huntemann - Diablo
Phil Kieran - I love you (remix)
Smith and Selway - Total Departure (remix)

and he finished with Reinhard Voigt - Robson Ponte (Voigt remix)

    Quality set.

Pissed off I missed it, its a **** when ive no mates into that sorta music, dance gigs on your own are fairly disheartening
