Ooma is advertising free calls for life, you just need to make a once off purchase of their box for about $200 or 150 euros and you get a US number and can call anywhere in the US for free and other countries such as Ireland are only about 2c/min. Since I have family in the US and make a lot of calls to the US, I was thinking of getting this at least just for the US initially and in about a year it should pay for itself. Anyone know about Ooma, the one big fear is you loose all if they go bust. I also have to question why ASshton Kutcher is company director>:)

I suppose the 200 dollar cost is for an ATA. You would certainly find an ATA a lot cheaper than that. There are cheaper possibilities for international calls too.

    Hi Earth Traveller,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it is just an glorified ATA. But with a standard ATA, you would still need to sign up with a VOIP carrier and even the cheapest seems to be at least €10/month, where as long as this croud doesn't go ourt of business, there are no fees.

Have a look here, especially at the reviews bit:

There seems to be questions surrounding the security of the system and also the business model they're using. Also a lot of execs have left recently.

There are lots of other options out there.
