Its been released in Japan as of March, and rumours are abound that MGS is headed to the PSP store for America/Europe in 2009, alongside Resident Evil 3

What do people think about this news and would it make them buy a PSN game?

I already have them, but for the people that don't I would say they are must haves.

If you have a modded PSP, you can play them already by converting your PSX discs to PSP format. Works really well.

One of the main reasons I want a PSP.

What is the freaking hold with regards Europe getting PSone games, where the hell is MGS, the final fantasies etc?

I do not understand the point of delay in these cases. Why did Japan get MGO monthes ago? Why has Europe still not got SF2:HD?

    I dunno.

Have to say that SCEE are absolutely atrocious. The slection of games on the japanese store is absolutely brilliant, the european selection is terrible. Don't even start on the SF2 delay.

I'd definitely buy MGS1 on the PS store. Absolutely love that game! Any idea when abouts its meant to be out?

But won't all the dialogue be in Japanese?

You can pick MGS1 up on Ebay. It'll work on the PS3

Only on the 60 gig launch consoles though isn't it?

Nope PS1 games work on all Ps3's, Ps2 games are the problem.

Nah Ps1 games work on all the models. Not the point tho-I want a cheap copy to DL.

You can't buy anything though, you need to get points cards from japan. Playasia won't ship them to Europe and everywhere else is almost constantly sold out of them so they are tough t get sometimes.

All the dialogue will also be in japanese. Not a problem with some games like Einhander but for MGS it will ruin it.

MGS would sell huge numbers, even the PSP mod scene have problems playing the game on PSP as its a multi disc game, saves etc.

MGS1 works fine on popsloader 3.72. Since 3.30 you've been able to switch controller ports (so you can get past Psycho-Mantis) and since 3.71 multi-disc EBOOTs have been supported (just use the latest version of RS-GUI POPStationMD or PSX2PSP to combine the ISO's you have burned from yoor discs into one file.)

I do agree though that Sony should really get these games on the Euro store as they would sell a lot. I got Suikoden from the US store :D

*Note for mods: I do not condone PSP piracy, Every PS1 Eboot on my PSP was made from a disc I own or bought on the PS-Store.

oh for sure, i know its possible but its a lot of hassle for a game you have probably played and beaten already. MGS for 5 quid a pop on PS store and they will make a bucketload for not much work.

I recently did a quick tot-up of how much I have spent on the PSN and it was embarassingly high. I assume a lot of people are like me and don't really think too hard on how much they are spending on it!

If Sony really want to start making money, using old PSX games is perfect. It is relatively easy for them to create the necessary files (based on using the aforementioned programs, with some encrpytions I assume) and share them, and they can charge €5 - €8 for them.

MGS, Vagrant Story, FFVII - IX, RE1 - 3 etc. There are plenty to choose from. Get the finger out Sony. I guarantee I and many others will buy them.

    Sweet, did not know that.

Tried FF VII and it worked...happy days.

The gamecube version is so much better than the PS version...imo.

I thought they ruined it. The first person aiming made the boss fights way too easy and the cutscenes were so over the top that they were nothing short of atrocious.

The PS1 games support for the PSP has been terrible in Europe, so any change is good. I have the original Resi Evil games on my PSP as it is, but RE3 always had a few issues. It would crash at a certain point, there were ways around it though (don't bring a certain item into a certain area and you avoid the crash). That could have changed since I last checked though, but presumably an official download wouldn't have such issues.

I never played it but I did watch a good few of the cutscenes on youtube.

It looks great, looks like MGS2 Snake in MGS1 game. But I thought the music was off in places (did they play "The Best Is Yet To Come" in the opening?) and a couple of the coice actors were crap. I noticed Mei Ling wasn't even Asian anymore.

Can you add a few to that list Retro?

Well it's still a good game. The graphics are a lot better than the first game obviously but there is some terrible slowdown in parts. The first person camera ruins all the boss fights, it makes them far too easy. Some of the cutscenes are way over the top. It works when the ninja is in them but some of them are off the wall. There's a particularly terrible one when snake defeats the Hind D. He does a backflip on to a missile that was fired at him, leaps off the missile and in mid air fires a stinger at the helicopter. There are others as well as equally stupid. The easier boss battles and OTT stupid cutscenes mean I'd play the original over it any time.

The best is yet to come is a find-able song for the ingame iPod

    Ehhh......thanks?

Slowdown? That shouldn't have been on a stronger console surely?

    Strange.

Yeah I know, and it happens in the oddest places as well when there really shouldn't be any slowdown. It's just bad programming by Silicon Knights really since the game isn't any better looking than MGS2 and on a far more powerful console.

MGS would be the first PSN game id buy.

It doesnt even matter that I have the ps1 disc already. I would buy it again in a heartbeat
