I have both Chorus MMDS and Sky in the house,

Was going to rid of the chorus which costs me 40 a month and get in the sky plus box for the bed room, as i seen an add for sky on this website saying 24.50 for the box .

I went onto check Sky's website and noticed that there was a special offer on the Multi room pack 7.37 per month.

I have the full sky package in HD with movies and Sports and also pay for my father SKy package with Sky Plus /sports and multi room.

So I rang up sky to be told the offers were only for new customers and the sky plus box would cost me €149 and my multi room would cost me 15 a month, being the times that we are in now i decided to barter with the gentleman from sky explaining i paid full 279 for my hd box and i have the full package and also pay my fathers account and surely there was something he could do for me to be told " we cant be paying for your equipment" I protested that my subscription would cover the cost. I then asked if this was an offer for new customers then what was on offer for the loyal customers ? I was told we dont do offers for existing customers !

Im not a penny pincher by any means but if a product can be valued at 7.37 pm to Jack then why should jill have to pay 15pm and the same goes for the box ! , its a complete rip off and no way to treat customers.

Im absolutely fuming have tempted to cancel the whole lot including my fathers and told the gentle man this who then informed me that i was still in contract and there was nothing i could do about it !

    rant over

Well the rant was over until now :

Just got back off the phone to SKy as on the website it says the SKY HD box is 74.50 and said sure i would not mind the HD upstairs also, I was informed my HD would 149 (Which is not too bad ) but I would then have to pay 15pm for Sky plus and pay a second HD subscription of 15pm.

How do they get away with charging you extra for some thing you already pay you , not even a discount on the hd sub

Is it compulsory to take out the extra subscriptions?

So you do not need to pay for them at all. Sky will only get away with this as long as people oblige and pay.

I've twice threatened to cancel with Sky - once when they tried to charge me to fix the system I pay them for nd once when they tried to charge me 150 for a sky plus box when new customers were getting it for half price - both times the threat worked and I had a repair man the next day and got the sky plus deal at the new customer's price - I don't have the groovy HD stuff you have so I'd imagine they would be quick enough to accommodate you if you ask for the canellations department.

These 'new' customer deals annoy the hell out of me - give your loyal customers something now and again.

Op i feel your pain, I to wanted multiroom and saw it on the web site for 7 euro and odd and thought fair enough only to be told that it was for new customers only, I said fair enough cancelled my contract they tried there level best to keep me, I told them no way if thats how you treat your existing customers i'm off.

one month later got the wife to sign up got a new sky plus box for the sitting room for 49 euro and free second box for the bedroom with multiroom costing 7 euro extra!!

The threats would be more effective if people were prepared to actually walk away... most can't bring themselves to follow through with it.

No way would I give my money to a company that charges €15 per month AND per room for a HD add-on.

I refuse to get multi room. Its bad enough nearly every house in Dublin has one of those "free boxes" so I'll be dammed if I'm giving sky another penny when some people are paying nothing. I have my second box plugged in with no card and have enough channels to keep me happy. There's only so many hours in a day!!

I didnt , I will now keep my chorus connection and try to re-route the signal to the main bedroom . The only problem is herself wont be happy , although i pay for the digital max with upc/chrous i only receive 86 stations and the one station she watches a lot Hallmark is not on it !

I did threaten to cancel and got put through the Irish branch who were very rude and had the attitude that your in contract so there is noting you can do .

You will be charged the minimum package cost for the remainder of your contract period. ie up untill August.

Yes with letters asking you why the DD is cancled and if not fixed bla bla bla bring it further and something along the lines of using law suits

once you sign up as a customer no matter how long your with them they dont give a flying figroll about ya's....all they see is money comin in and in the eyes of the big cats were all just a number in which we joined like a/c number

Not good idea, unless you want a nice letter from intrum justia saying Sky has passed on your debt to them..

New subscribers are far more valuable to Sky. They are aiming to hit their target number of subs. Work the system, or get over it...

I recently did a phone survey for sky, took about 20 mins, and one of the questions they asked was did I know that Sky offered the same deals to its existing customers as their new ones, but this does not appear to be the case.

co-incidently I cancelled by sub due to having building works done, so I may be able to avail of the latest offers as I nearly ready to move back in.

Not sure how the whole contract thing works - sounds like they have you by the janglies - I'd wait till the contract is finished and quit them - although they are all about new subscriptions, cancellation figures do hurt them.
