    Hi,

Quick question about ipod charger compatibility, cant seem to find any answers on google.

I have an old ipod charger that came with an ipod mini (yes, yeeears ago). I recently replaced the ipod mini with a new nano. Can anyone tell me if my old charger is compatible with the new ipod? Id be afraid the voltage is different and Id somehow break the new one.

Ive been told that because the new ipod is USB 2.0 using the old one wouldnt work, but im hoping theyre backwards compatible..

    Thanks :)

Yes it should work....the only problematic ipod in terms of charging seems to be the gen2 ipod touch.

cool thanks. i was just afraid there wouldnt be enough power in the old charger & being charged with a weaker power would damage the battery or something

Edit: Sorry didn't read properly, thought you said the touch instead of nano.

I have bought the new nano and an istation for my dad, the new nano power pins are differently configured than the istation, so istation will not charge it.

Need to find him an alternative pretty quickly, I have found this Logic 3 AC -> USB charger on maplin, using the nano's USB cable this should presumably work?

I have a cheaper AC -> usb adaptor but it doesnt charge it.

Odd, I've charged my nano 4g (now sold) plenty of times using the Apple usb charger from 05/06 and a USB cable I got with my ipod classic 80gb model without any issue...From what i've read I was only aware that Apple had altered things in the new iPod Touch?

Well the nano 4g is saying "charging not supported with this accessory" on both the iStation I bought with it, and an older iStation I had.

I'm hesitant to buy the Logic 3 AC kit. Where in Dublin can I buy an Apple one? Thanks

FYI for anyone with a similar problem:

I bought a world travel adaptor that allows you to use your existing usb cable to charge the ipod.

Confirm that this works with new generation nano.

Also it was less than half the price of the Logic 3 in Maplin.

Something like Jivo usb charger. 14.95 in 3G store.
