Who is your mail provider? If using POP to collect your mail then you might need to check the remove mail from server check mark in your client settings so the mail is removed from the server when you check your mail next time so that space is freed up in your account on the server.

How long ago was the expected mail sent? It may have already been rejected by the server or the senders mail server may have given up if it took too long to deliver (too many attempts)

OK have you ensured the sent items folder has been cleared on the server too?

    http://emailprotector.eircom.net/

That's the link to the F-Prot web UI. Fill in your email address and request a new password, log in with the password they'll provide to you and check the Quarantine to see if its been caught by their spam filter.

There's a sad number of businesses using eircom's webmail because they got the free account when they got internet installed :(
